Summer break is the best time of the year because you get to be home with your family and friends while being able to make money with a summer job, but most importantly, being able to take some time off of school work. Unless you are taking online summer classes. Me? You bet I'm taking summer courses. The more and more I think about them starting soon, the more and more I start to panic.
1. Trying to remember your assignment is due by midnight.
Unlike in class courses, you may forget you are actually enrolled and forget that you have assignments due each week. When you're with your friends sitting around a fire enjoying a calm summer night, don't forget that you have a paper due in about three hours that you haven't started yet.
2. Actually finding the time to do assignments.
I don't know about you, but I work six out of the seven days of the week. I barely have time to hang out with my friends and do fun summer things, so taking a class is only taking up more of my time.
3. Trying to stay motivated.
This should probably number one because finding the motivation to read 100 pages of a book is difficult when the pool and sunshine are calling your name. The weather is gorgeous, but unfortunately you're stuck inside regretting signing up for the class.
4. Not having your professor to help you one on one in person.
Whenever you're having trouble on an assignment, it is hard when the only form of communication is via email. I like to talk to my professors face to face when I am struggling or have questions, so for me, this is no bueno.
5. Not being able to take vacations like your classmates.
This doesn't stop me from going on my yearly summer vacations, so I just take my work and laptop along with me. Although, it does hold me back from all the fun for a few hours out of the day.
6. Trying not to become burnt out.
The fall and spring semesters are stressful enough and taking summer courses just add on extra weight that you were hoping to lose throughout the summer. Although it is an online class, they take up just as much time as going to class does.
Although I am dreading the fact that my summer courses start in a week, I'm ready to get back in the grind of having somewhat of a schedule outside of work. In the end, I'm only helping my GPA improve and earn more credits.
