Every year students are faced with a realization that gives each of us mixed feelings... summer is almost over. With the final days of vacation quickly coming to an end, we must come to terms with the fact that the carefree days of vacation cannot last forever, and we must return to school. Although we have processed this dreary fact many summers in the past, going back to classes, exams and term papers at college is a hard pill to swallow all the same. Each of us knows the emotional stages that come with this all too well, and so do our favorite wizards from "Harry Potter."
1. Downright Denial
The first (and longest) stage, denial. For weeks leading up to the first day, you ignore any references to school starting back. Back-to-school commercials, school shopping, packing, etc. You ignore it with the hope it's just another hallucination and cling to the idea that summer vacation will stay forever.
2. Extreme Panic
When you finally come to terms with reality, you suddenly feel a nauseated, shaky feeling, and it continues to build up as the day gets closer and closer.
3. Denial Part 2: Refusal to Pack
When your mom tells you she's left packing boxes in your room, and you say, "What for?" It is then you begin to ignore your parents and drift back into dream land where school doesn't exist.
4. Acceptance
With just days until move-in, you have no choice but to finally accept that summer is over and classes begin in a matter of days. This fact displeases you greatly.
5. Stress Stress Stress (and a little anxiety)
Packing, moving, unpacking, and socializing after three months of minimal interaction with human beings can be a wee bit stress-inducing. Not to mention having to actually accomplish things besides binge-watching "Game of Thrones" and sleeping 12 hours a day.
6. Relief and Relaxation
Once you're settled and back in the swing of things, you can finally relax. Although classes are stressful, you're finally back. Your "home away from home" is the most exciting, fun place to be, and with your friends by your side, anything is possible. It's a whole new year, and you can't wait to make more unforgettable memories.
