All of us have experienced it at one time or another. While writing your midterm paper the night before it's due, writing a summary about a book you didn't read, or even trying to write your new Odyssey article to be published for the next week (me right now), writer's block is ever present and happens quite often. The easiest way to deal with and accept your writer's block is to know what you go through when it traps you. These are the stages, and how you know for sure, you are experiencing writers block…

  1. The Denial Stage. You tell yourself, I don't have writer's block! You are an amazing writer! The great idea is right in front of you. It’s an amazing idea, very interesting and witty. You reach for it!!! Sike - It wasn't there in the first place. Well, maybe another will pop up soon. *Five hours later* Okay maybe not.
  2. The Bribery Stage. Ah, you have made it to the “WRITING IS THE HARDEST THING EVER” stage. This is the moment that you tell yourself - okay. I'm going to write one paragraph and then I get to eat the king sized Milky Way Dad is hiding in the pantry. Ill write on more paragraph, then I get to go get Chipotle. And maybe, just maybe, if you finish by 1 am, you can binge watch "Gossip Girl" on Netflix. In reality, the goals you set for yourself usually don't get accomplished, but you get the rewards anyways.
  3. Pure Sadness. Now you are just in a state of depression. Who really knows how long you have been trying to finish your wonderful masterpiece. Twelve hours, two days, three days, a week… This is where you question yourself the most. Am I really a good writer? Should I continue on? What am I doing? WHY??!? How can I even be a writer if I can't actually write?
  4. Madness. Aka: the freak out stage. You are angry. The bitterness sets in. WHO CARES IF YOU DON'T WRITE ANYTHING. Definitely not you. You care zero percent about writing and anything that has to do with writing. Nobody reads your writing anyway! You want to do anything but write. You would rather… exercise… *gasp* You end up reading a well written article by someone else and you think to yourself “Wow. That person probably didn’t even break a sweat or lose any sleep over this amazing piece of work. I hate myself.” And then - you get even angrier. You may even think of giving up.
  5. The “I am a genius” Stage. This is the fifth and final stage. This is the time when that light bulb goes off in your head and you think to yourself “I AM AMAZING.” You bust out the most amazing piece of writing you have ever done and you are proud of it. You are OK. Writer's block is just another (annoying) part of life, and you are a strong independent writer that can overcome any obstacle. Until next time, writer's block.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
