5 Stages Of Every Haircut

"This is a terrible idea!"

5 Stages Of Every Haircut

Every one goes through it. You have the idea to cut your hair, and once you decide how you are going to cut it, you get really excited. You make the appointment, but when you get there, you start to get nervous. It becomes a whirlwind of emotions from start to finish.

1. The idea.

It usually starts when you are looking in the mirror at all your dead ends. You try to remember the last time you had it cut, and realize that it has been way to long, and your ends look like they suffered through a hurricane. This is when you get on Pinterest and start looking at all the ways to style your hair. You find one that you love, so you call and make an appointment.

2. Arrival.

The scary part starts when you arrive. You start to second guess this whole idea, and wonder if you should just walk out. Then a lady with pink hair approaches and tells you she is ready for you, this is when you totally start to panic. Is this girl going to cut my hair? Is her hair red or pink? Oh my god what if she does something absolutely crazy to my hair? This was a terrible idea.

3. The cut.

The scissors haunt you, now. You can see them sitting on the table glaring in the light. Those first cut jitters start to creep up on you, but there is no running now. Suddenly that first piece of hair is lying helplessly on the floor. You stare at it, and silently freak out, wondering why she cut so much off. As she continues you try not to think about all cutting, but the pile of hair on the floor just keeps growing.

4. The aftermath.

It is finally over, but now you can't stop touching it. Your hair feels so light, and it seems to stop so high. You keep running your fingers through it, but it doesn't get any longer. This is the first moment of absolute regret. You start to tell everyone how much you hate it as soon as you are out of the salon. You can't believe how it looks. It is so short, and not at all like the picture you showed her. You can't believe you ever thought this was a good idea, and swear to never cut your hair again.

5. Acceptance.

Now that a few hours have passed, you realize that it doesn't look that bad at all. The length is exactly what you wanted, and the blow out looks great, you only wish you could make it look like that every morning. All your friends tell you how cute it looks, and how much they love it. You start to think about how ridiculous you had been earlier, and silently thank the pink haired hair dresser for making you look so amazing.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
