There is no denying the beauty of Newport, Rhode Island. The ocean is gorgeous, the shops are wonderful, and the restaurants are magnificent. However, the best part about Newport is the people who you’ll meet there. Whether you are there for a weekend trip, or are planning to move there, here are the five people who you will definitely see.

1. The Tourist

Of course, this is no surprise. All year round there are flocks of tourists to the small island. In the summer they come for the beaches, music festivals, and food. In the winter they come for the mansion tours--all beautifully decorated for the holiday season. Equipped with a camera around their neck and a smile on their face, these sight-seers love to experience the wonder that is Newport. No matter when they come you are sure to be asked at least once, “Do you know where the Breakers is?”

2. The College Student

Salve Regina University sits right along the cliff walk in Newport. It’s home to a variety of different students all working to better their future. Whether they are going out to dinner or possibly just walking to class, you are sure to see the young adults. But be warned, finals week turns all college students into shells of their former selves and you are more likely to see them shuffling along with a stack of books than you are to see them going out.

3. The Runner

For some reason Newport attracts some of the most intense runners. Day after day, hour after hour, there are runners everywhere you look. Between the college students who are working out for sports and the adults training for the upcoming race, you are sure to spot at least one runner on your walk outside.

4. The Elderly Couple

Out of all the people who you’ll see in Newport, one of the favorites is the elderly couple who seems to be everywhere. Whether they are getting an early dinner or simply taking a walk to the beach, the site of these two will melt your heart. In the summer they are seen with sun hats and lunch bags while in the winter they are spotted with their big, puffy jackets and mittens--holding hands everywhere they walk.

5. Dogs

While not technically people, dogs have an important role in the Newport community. It seems as though there is a rule to living there that you must own a dog or know someone there that owns a dog. No matter what time of year it is, or what time of day, you are always able to spot these furry little creatures and, perhaps, even stop to say hello to one or two.

Newport is a wonderful place that brings all sorts of people together. Whether you are looking to enjoy the beach in the summer, tour a few mansions, or possibly live there, you are sure to create new connections and friendships with everyone who you bump into. No matter who you meet, you are sure to fall in love with both the people and the city.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
