One of my favorite, but defunct, groups of all time is the punk-poppy-dance band The Cab. While this band is no longer around, if you were to look at my most played songs on my iPod or on Spotify, you would see that they are all from this band. In 2008, my interest for the band came about when I accidentally clicked on the video "Bounce;" I meant to click on a Fall Out Boy video...sorry. But, once I started to listen to the song and watch the video, I was simply mesmerized and since then, I haven't stopped listening to them. Their first album "Whisper War" debuted eight years ago this past August, man, I feel old. However, this band has had a huge impact on my life and while it may sound silly to say that a band has impacted me, they have.Throughout different points in my life, points in time where I needed something that could help me feel, I needed something to express my joy, I needed some type of music to save me from my dark thoughts, they were there. So, in honor of my favorite band, even though they are no longer existing, here are my top favorite songs by The Cab.
1. "Bounce"
This song started my love for them. The catchy lyrics and the even more intriguing video is what sold me. Plus, since watching this video, I have always wanted to be a part of a paint party.
2. "Vegas Skies"
I remember sitting on the bus headed to school and this song being on constant replay. I am pretty sure it was the song that always played when someone clicked on my MySpace profile too. The lyrics, "It's a looooooonnnnggg drive back to Vegas Skiiiieess" will always replay in my head every now and then.
3. "High Hopes in Velvet Ropes"
Most people forgot about this song or they really didn't even give it a chance. It was hands down one of my favorites and whenever I am driving it is one of the first songs I click on to prepare me for the long drive home. I don't know what it is about this song, but it is just really special to me.
4. "I'll Run"
Whenever I am feeling down, I play this song because it speaks volumes to me. Just the lyrics "Have a little faith in me" are the ones that really give me the push to go on with the rest of my day.
5. "Take My Hand" (Ft. Cassadee Pope)
So, they did a sort of remix to the song and made it more upbeat and then added in Cassadee Pope. You know that girl that sings country music now and was on "The Voice"? Yeah, it's the same one. Before being famous now, she was in a band called Hey Monday, that was just as amazing as The Cab. This song is amazing for one sole reason, Pope's vocals.
Thank you to The Cab and its members, old and new. While you may have all parted at different times, I still hold out all of my love for you, because you helped me get through life and for that, I am forever grateful.
