Cheesy yes, but heartwarming and timeless

The Christmas season is my favorite time of year, and usually proves to be a joyous time for friends and family around us. There is a break from school, time to see family, skiing and sledding to be done, cookies to bake, and parties to throw and attend. As for myself, one of my favorite traditions is watching It's a Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve, followed by the classic cartoon the next day; Charlie Brown, Rudolf, Frosty the Snowman, and so on ( I especially love the Polar Express, particularly when watched with some hot cocoa and some blankets).

While many things make the season wonderful, another favorite event of mine is movies on Hallmark channel every year; you know, the predictable, cheesy, almost-too-sweet movies that are nothing but happy endings and perfect gentlemen you can never find except for, well, on Hallmark. But these movies are tradition for me, my mom, and my sister, and we watch them with pride. By now, we have probably seen them all, and so, for all of you out there looking for 2 hours to knock out, here are our top 5 Hallmark movies of Christmas.

1. Christmas Detour

Our favorite girl Candace Cameron Bure (of 'Full House') is back and this time, she gets stranded at an airport en route to her fiance when she meets a charming, thoughtful (TALL!) man in the airport. Now I wonder who she'll chose in the end...yes, you can probably guess; still, the humor is great and the laughs are plenty.

2. Dashing Through the Snow

Here we get Andrew Walker, a classic charmer who can pull off anything from a hippie to a cop in these movies, who is a police detective who shares the last rental car with a girl he thinks is a runaway con woman. Ooh, interesting. Turns out she...well, you'll have to watch and find out now, won't you? Also making an appearance is a dog and some tissues (from yours truly).

3. Crown for Christmas

A classic tale of a governess who hangs out with the guy's daughter and ends up marrying him in the process. JK, if that has ever happened anywhere but Hallmark, let me know. But you get a powerful royal family, jealous duchess, a few pranks, and British accents, so what more could you want?

4. A Dream of Christmas

Once again, Andrew Walker returns! His wife is a businesswoman and he's a traveling photographer making a photo book. On a whim, his wife wishes for a single life when she wasn't always busy and when she could see her husband amidst his travels. Little does she know, her wish is overheard by a stranger and she wakes up to see what her life could have been like and how lucky she really is. Nothing like a modern take on It's a Wonderful Life, eh?

5. The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Remember Henry Winkler? the Fonz from Happy Days? Here we get to see him playing the uncle to Brooke Burns, a classic model-like woman with a business mindset and a white-collar boyfriend. Her uncle meets a young, hardworking (cute!) guy and invites him to spend the holidays with them. Sparks fly, and with humor, tricks, and playful meddling, this becomes a Christmas to remember.

These are some of the best cheesy Christmas and holiday movies that my family and I enjoy, and hope you do too! Here's hoping your holiday season was a great one.

The 5 Painfully True Stages Of Camping Out At The Library

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.

1. Finals are weeks away, I’m sure I’ll be ready for them when they come.
