Lorde - The now 20-year-old superstar is set to release Melodrama, the follow up to her smash hit Pure Heroine on the 16th of June, 2017. Four years ago, Ella Yelich-O'Connor was an unknown teenage girl with an overwhelming amount of talent, and when her single “Royals” was released, it dominated the charts and spent nine weeks at the number-one spot. However, besides having chart success, Lorde succeeds off of her songwriting talent and impressive set of vocals, which was what led to her rapid fame. After lead single “Green Light,” I am excited to see what the rest of Melodrama will hold, and I am sure it will not disappoint.
HAIM - This extremely-talented trio of sisters released their debut album Days Are Gone in 2013 to critical acclaim and pleased listeners with a collection of catchy, unforgettable songs that channeled sounds of the 70’s while also feeling progressive. During the time after their album, fans have eagerly awaited a follow-up, and that moment seems close now that the sisters have been posting photos on their Instagrams with the date April 27th, 2017 as a caption, and billboards have been popping up all over the world with images of the girls. It seems as if new music should be coming any moment now, and hopefully April 27th will bring us a new single.
Vampire Weekend - One of the best bands from the past decade is set to release the follow up to their critically-acclaimed album Modern Vampires of the City. Although Rostam Batmanglij left the band a year ago, the band is continuing to create music, and Batmanglij has stated that he would not be opposed to making more music with the group. While the direction the band will be taking on this new album is undetermined, the group was quite successful with their last three albums, so hopefully they will hit the mark the fourth time as well.
Arcade Fire - Considered to be another one of the best bands from the 21st century, Arcade Fire are expected to release the follow up to their fourth studio album, Reflektor this year. After garnering critical attention and even winning the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2011 for their album The Suburbs, many fans are anxiously awaiting the indie band’s latest album, and with a member mentioning a springtime release date, the release of this album may be coming much sooner rather than later.
Sky Ferreira - One of the most underrated female artists to hit the scene in the past five years, Sky Ferreira is expected to release Masochism, the follow up to her terrific debut album Night Time, My Time at some point within 2017. Ferreira’s sophomore effort has received a lot of setbacks and the album’s release has been continually pushed back, but hopefully this means for fans that the work will be just as impressive as her previous work. Hopefully with this release, Ferreira will get more attention chart-wise for the insanely good pop/rock songs that she creates.
