I consider myself a huge fan of Disney. I remember dressing up as a princess and going to Disney World with my mom, dad, abuela, and sister. I was always Cinderella and my sister Carla was always Ariel (she got first pick, obviously, being the older sister) and we would share our dresses and make up stories based on our favorite fantasy movies. Everyone knows and loves certain princess movies- Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Little Mermaid obviously rank high on everyone's list. But Disney also puts out tons of movies that are very much underrated. These are my top three favorite Disney movies that don't get as much love. You should totally check them out and rediscover these classics!
1. "Ratatouille"
This movie is Disney-Pixar, sure but it's still one of my all-time favorites. It's totally adorable- a rat loves food and has an an exceptional palette. As it turns out, his passion makes him a great and amazingly talented chef. However, rats are obviously pretty highly ostracized from the world of cooking and food. Eventually, Remmy (the rat in question) meets a young chef and the two band together to work in a kitchen in Paris. The reason that I love this movie is more than the fact that it's cute. I love this movie because it encourages us all to follow our dreams and teaches children that no matter where you come from, you can pursue your passion and make your dreams come true.
2. "Cars"
At first, just like everyone else, I was really skeptical about this movie. Yes, the concept is incredibly stupid- talking cars? Really? How do they eat, shower, and do anything else? However, this movie surprised me. It has a ton of heart- the story follows the young and extremely cocky racing superstar Lightning McQueen's fall from grace when he is forced to do community service to repave a road that he inadvertently destroyed when forcing his Big Rig to tow him all night. Through his humbling, McQueen learns that people who he used to consider less than himself are just as important as international racing superstars. I love this movie because it teaches children that being humble and thinking of other people is just as important as who you are as a person.
3. "The Hunchback of Notre Dame"
This movie is absolutely stunning. In my opinion, this is one of Disney's most visually appealing film. In the story, a deformed man named Quasimodo who has lived in one of Paris' cathedrals his entire life falls in love with a kind gypsy named Esmerelda. Together, Quasimodo helps Esmerelda escape Paris and the evil Judge Frollo, who accuses her of being a witch. One of the most amazing things about this movie is that it was one of the last hand-drawn movies made by Disney. The story, the art, and especially the music is all incredible, but doesn't get enough love. Check this movie out today!
