I recently began my first semester of my sophomore year in college, which I am super happy about. The only problem is that I am required to take a crazy amount of extra classes to satisfy my electives before my junior year! If you ever have to take that many hours (or more), you need to be prepared, or try to get out of it ASAP to save the sliver of sanity you may have after your freshman year.
First of all, I do not have time to eat, like, ever. I have to wake up way too early for my long school days to eat breakfast and actually be awake for my class(es). Sometimes I am so tired from the day before that I will skip breakfast just to get a few more precious minutes of sleep. A normal, sit-down, break-style lunch is always out of the question, unless I want a hamburger at 10 in the morning or want to starve until 2. Depending on the day, I can't eat dinner either. You may be wondering if I am anorexic or if scarf down 20 pounds worth of food at the end of the day, but sadly, I rely on sugar-based, grab-n-go foods instead. I know- gross, bad for me, whatever-- it's all I have time for! I would buy groceries and make my own lunch, but that costs cash instead of meal plan money.
Secondly, sitting through five 1 hour and 20 minute classes in a rowreally takes a toll on the mind, and butt. I try to stay awake through a long class, and then I have to book it to the other side of the campus in 15 minutes. God forbid I have to use the restroom or want to grab a granola bar from the convenient store-- then I have to jog, ew. Even though I am taking classes that I enjoy, it feels like a burden going to them because I am so exhausted. When a professor lets me out early and I can run to my dorm to lessen my book-load, I know God is smiling upon me.
Third, I have responsibilities other than school, like work and volunteering. I have to work a some point in my hectic week to have money to survive and all that, so of course the only place I could schedule time was on my "chill days". So, my "chill days" are a little less "chill" because I also have to run to work. I'm also required to volunteer for two hours a week because I'm an honors student, which adds to the whole big mess of my time management skills.
I know that this was a rather whiny post, but if you can take your "BS classes" during the summer or winter mini-sessions, DO IT! If you can't, well, at least you'll get insane back muscles from carrying around all of your books!
