The 14 Day Quote Challenge

I think most people can agree that each new year, we start off strong with resolutions to do better and be better versions of ourselves. Unfortunately, we rarely ever follow through with those resolutions. We stay strong through the first few days, but slowly and surely waiver in our willpower until February comes around and we completely forget we even made a resolution. The beginning of 2016 seemed to be no different. My friend and I made a resolution to branch outside our comfort zone, get involved in our community, be more productive, and take advantage of what life has to offer. In doing so, we decided to start each day with a positive quote to carry throughout our day. Realistically, I thought we would send each messages every day for a week and then we would forget about it. Now a little over a month later, I am amazed just how a silly saying in the morning can set your perspective up for the entire day.

Get a friend or a group of people together and take the challenge. Try it. For just two weeks, send, post, or tweet a quote every morning and start everyday with a positive thought.

Here is our two week challenge:

Day 1: "The man on the top of the mountain did not fall there." - Vince Lombardi

Day 2: "One day you will wake up and there wont be any more time to do the thing you've always wanted. Do it now."- Paulo Coelho

Day 3: "Believe you can & you are already half way there." - Teddy Roosevelt

Day 4: "You will never have this day again, so make it count." - Unknown

Day 5: "Whenever you find yourself doubting how far you can go, just remember how far you have come. Remember everything you have faced, all the battles you have won, and all the fears you have overcome." - Unknown

Day 6: "Everyone should smile, life really isn't that serious. We make it hard. The sun rises. The sun sets. We just tend to complicate the process." - Unknown

Day 7: "For beautiful eyes, look into the good of others. For beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness. And for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone". - Audrey Hepburn

Day 8: "Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing." - Mother Theresa

Day 9: "You are free to choose but you are not free from the consequences of your choice." - Unknown

Day 10: "Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets. So love the people who treat you right and forget the ones that don't and believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said that it'd be easy, they just promised it would be worth it." - Anonymous

Day 11: "I've seen better days, but I've also seen worse. I don't have everything that I want, but I do have all I need. I woke up with some aches and pain, but I woke up. My life may not be perfect, but I am blessed." - Unknown

Day 12: "Push yourself because no one else is going to do it for you." - Unknown

Day 13: "Your mind is a powerful thing. When you fill it with positive thoughts, your life will start to change." - Unknown

Day 14: "Close your eyes and imagine the best version of you possible. That's who you really are. Let go of any part of you that does not believe." - C. Assaad

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
