The 13 Worst Things About Going Home For The Summer

3 months should go by fast, right?

Packing up the decorations you hung up just months ago. Folding all your clothes, somehow going home with more than you came with. Emptying out your desk and packing up your textbooks. Who knew that leaving school for the summer would make you miss it so much.

1. Leaving all of your best friends

If you’re anything like me, most of your friends are the ones you made at college. You live hours apart and you won’t get to see them at all this summer. Your friends are always there for you and now you have to go 3 months without them.

2. Packing your stuff

You had to pack it all up to bring it school and now you’re doing the same thing to bring it home. It’s a nuisance, because where do you put it when you get home? We all know it’s going to end up staying in the boxes until you get too tired of looking at it.

3. Getting a summer job

Okay, no one wants to have one. Unless you have a really amazing job where you get paid lots of money, you hate this part of summer. You spend majority of your summer working when you really should be having fun.

4. Living in your parents' house

Their house, their rules. No late night dance parties, food raves or having guys over. Be ready to get smothered with all their attention too.

5. Having no free time to vacation

Remember that whole job situation. Well get ready for no vacations because you’ll be working all summer long.

6. Not having an endless supply of food

Part of being a college student is binge eating food all the time, at any period of the day. When you’re home, you might get your mom’s cooking but you don’t get to eat it 24/7. Have fun trying to satisfy your 2am cravings at home.

7. Not seeing your college hookup

As much as we hate to admit it, we will miss the guy who we’ve been seeing on the side. When you’re in the mood to hangout or just have some fun, he won’t be there. Take the summer to find a hookup at home just to keep you sane.

8. Getting bored...

As much fun as the summer job you just got may be, we know that you’ll get bored when you’re not there. Unlike at college you don’t a new activity going on every direction you go. You’ll have to create some new fun for the summer just to keep yourself from going crazy.

9. Staying in your childhood bedroom

Oh the fun of living in your childhood bedroom for the next 3 months. While you’ll have your own room once again, you’ll be surrounded by the old hobbies of your past. Those stuffed animals piled up on your bed have missed you and you have to admit you’ve missed it too.

10. Having to drive everywhere

This one may not apply to everyone, but I know I hate to drive. At college you can walk 5 minutes and have a doctor, pharmacy, restaurants and so much more. Back at home you have to get in your car and drive to these places. Driving also means paying for gas, which no one likes.

11. Not being able to borrow your roommate's clothes

It was like having two closets designed especially for you. You’re going home with half the closet which means less options when it comes to summer wardrobe. Get ready to buy some new clothes to fill the void of the clothes that you had to leave behind.

12. Bars aren’t in walking distance from your house

Now you have to find a designated driver, which means more planning before you go out. This also means you can't walk into your parents house extremely drunk at 2am.

13. Not having a support system right next door

Part of the college experience is living in a dorm with people around you all the time. These people can become your best friends who you lean on when you're facing your toughest challenges. Going home you may have family but you won't have people who understand what you're going through at school.

As much as we may hate going home for the summer, try to enjoy the time you have with family. Take this summer to try new things and enjoy yourself. You only have 3 months until you're right back at college.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

There's always chaos in the restaurant business.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant
Brisanis

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.

One of the scariest things we will ever face in our life is going to college. Many of us move away to a new town, join new organizations, and make new friends. We are expected to study, have a social life, relationships, maybe work, and be healthy. If you are in high school, here are some things that you can learn from before you get to college. If you have already been through your freshman year of college, hopefully you can relate to the things I have learned in college.
