What To Expect Before Bingeing '13 Reasons Why'

In less than a week, the Netflix original series "13 Reasons Why," executive-produced by Selena Gomez, has created lots of attention among viewers and television critics alike. Wondering why? Well, I guess you will just have to watch and see for yourself. You at least must be a little curious about what the hype is about. Here is what you should expect when you begin to watch this Netflix original.

The 13-part series, inspired by the 2007 book "Thirteen Reasons Why" by Jay Asher, expresses teen bullying, sexual assault and suicide. It tells the story of Hannah Baker, played by actress Katherine Langford, who takes her own life after numerous accounts of social abuse at school, both online and in person. Knowing that those around her would be desperate for answers why, Hannah leaves behind a series of cassette tapes as to why she killed herself. "13 Reasons Why" is told through the eyes of Clay Jensen, who receives a number of tapes from Hannah Baker. Each tape centers on a person who contributed to Hannah's death.

The show functions as a way to get teens together to talk about bullying and its consequences. The message of the show really portrays that we never know what someone else is going through and that we should really think about how we treat others on a daily basis.

If you plan on watching the show for yourself, which I highly encourage you to do, I would steer clear of what information I am about to give you. If you do not plan on watching the show, then here are Hannah Baker's 13 Reasons Why. This way you aren't completely out of the loop of what everyone has been talking about this past week. Settle in. Here are the 13 Reasons Why.

Spoiler Alert: The 13 Reasons Why

"Hey, it's Hannah. Hannah Baker. Don't adjust your... whatever device you're hearing this on. It's me, live and in stereo. No return engagements, no encore, and this time, absolutely no requests. Get a snack. Settle in. Because I'm about to tell you the story of my life. More specifically, why my life ended. And if you're listening to this tape...you're one of the reasons why."

1. Justin Foley: Hannah's first kiss. He started rumors that they did more than just kiss.

2. Alex Standall: pitted Hannah and Jessica Davis against each other by voting Hannah "Best Ass of the Freshmen Class."

3. Jessica Davis: was upset by Alex's list and the fact he broke up with her, so she blames Hannah and ends up slapping Hannah in the face.

4. Tyler Down: allegedly took pictures of Hannah through her window (she calls him a Peeping Tom).

5. Courtney Crimson: a super fake girl at school who started rumors that Hannah asked her to have a three-way. Then continued to tell people that Hannah did more with Justin Foley than everyone was led to think.

6. Marcus Cooley: Marcus tried to make a move on her in a booth at Rosie's Diner. She had to push him out of the booth and onto the floor to get him to stop.

7. Zach Dempsey: After Hannah rejected Zach when he asked her out, he began to steal the notes of encouragement left for Hannah by classmates in her Peer Communications class.

8. Ryan Shaver: Hannah met Ryan Shaver in a poetry class and really trusted him; that is, until he stole a very personal poem of Hannah's and published it, leading to more ridicule for Hannah.

9. Clay Jensen: The ninth tape features Clay and assures him that he had nothing to do with Hannah's suicide. He was actually really good to Hannah.

10. Justin Foley: From the first tape, he's back on the recordings. This time, Justin allowed Bryce Walker to have sex with Jessica while she was unconscious.

11. Sheri: offered Hannah a ride home, but knocked down a stop sign with her car. Sheri refused to report the incident, and shortly after, there was a fatal accident at the stop sign.

12. Bryce Walker: One night, Bryce started to touch Hannah in a hot-tub, and Hannah let Bryce, whom she despised, have sex with her.

13. Mr. Porter: Hannah's guidance counselor who didn't take her seriously when she said she was suicidal. He let her leave his office without getting her any help.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
