A new school year is right around the corner for many college students. Brace yourself for whatever the new semester holds. One fictional tv character that definitely knows a thing or two about handling all sorts of life situations is Olivia Pope. She's ran a couple of wild presidential campaigns, dealt with her devious spy agent father better known as "command," semi-maintained an intense affair with the President of the United States and survived a brutal kidnapping. Here are some stages of going back to college that Olivia Pope would definitely know how to handle.

1. The Pep Talk

Before your semester truly begins, you try and set some expectations/goals for yourself. Maybe you won't party as much. Maybe you"ll give yourself more time to study or maybe you'll convince yourself to not start watching a new series on Netflix the night before a huge test.

2. The First Wakeup

That moment when you first wake up in your new dorm and realize you're truly free and no longer in your bedroom at home...Feel the independence!

3. Strutting on the First Day of Classes

Who doesn't look BOMB on the first day of classes? What you wear on the first day can create an initial impression on many people but by the end of the semester no one will remember so don't stress too much! Look amazing for yourself! Pick out an outfit that you feel confident in and you will shine!

4. *Reads Each Syllabus*

Multiple tests, papers and quizzes will definitely make you feel a little scared about the semester... It's okay to feel overwhelmed. Give yourself some time to process everything and breathe then come up with a way to manage all of your future assignments.

5. When you see that one person you can't stand...

Just keep walking...Some people just aren't worth conflict and stress.

6. "Hi i'm __________ and i'm a _________ major.

Get ready to introduce yourself to tons of new people in classes and clubs...It can be tiring so get that smile ready!

7. Looking at photos of everyone you miss.

Sometimes homesickness hits right away. Photos can help you cope or they can actually make it worse...Know or figure out what makes you feel better.

8. Realizing how far away Winter Break is...

*Secretly wishes that it was finals weeks so that winter break would be up next*... *Quickly regrets the previous statement when studying/stressing over finals.*

9. Unloading all of your feelings on Bae.

Being able to talk to someone who's far away about everything that's going on where you are can be so nice. Spill whatever you're feeling and get the support you need to keep going.

10. Taking control of your life in 3-2-1!

Do you remember who you are and how amazing you are? Do you remember that you too can be like Olivia Pope? Pull yourself together and handle everything! You are more than capable.

11. Pour it Up

Whether you're feeling celebratory or sad Olivia Pope would definitely recommend that you enjoy some Red Wine. It's basically her secret weapon.

Lastly, Olivia Pope once said...

So are you ready to be a gladiator this school year? Stand tall and give this school year all you've got. It will be over before you know it...When times get hard just think WWOPD (What Would Olivia Pope Do?)

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
