These days, it seems like everyone is involved in some sort of group chat. Or, if you're anything like me, you're involved in thirty (I'm not over-exaggerating).Whether it's via text message, Facebook, Twitter, GroupMe, or Whatsapp, we pretty much all have a group of people we're communicating with throughout the day. So, these are the twelve people you'll meet in your group chat.
1. The "Mom"
While we don't usually invite our actual moms to gossip and talk about life problems with our friends, there's still an honorary mom of the group chat. This person helps maintain order when things go awry, as well as help the other people in the group make good decisions.
2. The One Who Starts Almost Every Conversation
Some people just have a lot to say and, to be completely honest, it's a lot easier to tell all of your friends something by sending it in the group chat than by sending it out to them individually. So, there's always that one person who starts almost all of the conversations by sending various memes, spoiler alerts, screenshots, gifs, and gossip and asking everyone else what they think.
3. The One Who Doesn't Know Why They're There
Sometimes, when a group chat gets started, you just want to add all of your friends... The only problem with this is that some of your friends really won't have anything to offer to that particular group chat and they're going to be left pretty confused.
4. The Sh*t-Starter
The Sh*t-Starter doesn't actually cause drama because, let's face it, everyone in the group chat is friends. This person just has a lot of sassy responses at the ready and is willing to use them at any point in time. It's up to everyone else in the group to know who the Sh*t-Starter is and to be ready for sarcastic comments to come their way.
5. The Sh*t Poster
In group chats, there are a lot of random posts, It's bound to happen. What sets the Sh*t Poster apart is that they rarely post anything in the group chat, and then when they do, it's really weird. This person may go weeks at a time without saying anything and then, suddenly, everyone is being forced to watch a strange Harry Potter/ Thomas the Train video from iFunny.
6. The News Reporter
The News Reporter also doesn't typically post, but when they do, it's an important update about the current state of the world. Whether it's about the presidential race, local news, social justice, or just the latest TSM article, you can always count on the News Reporter to keep you and your friends in the loop.
7. The Comic Relief
The Comic Relief is one of the most important people in the group chat, as they're the one who settles the tension when things get heated and provides all of the dad jokes you could ever want. Sometimes this person may be the only one laughing at their own jokes, but it's hard to tell where the group would be without them.
8. The One Who's Just There to Talk About Their Feelings
I'm not saying this person is emotional, just that they like to share their feelings about things with the group. It's not usually deep, meaningful feelings about life's greater purpose, but more along the lines of how they feel about their latest Netflix series. Even if no one else in the group knows what this person is talking about, they have no problem expressing their love for Sam Winchester or their anger at people in the small town they live in.
9. The "Don't Speak Unless Spoken to"
This isn't entirely literal, because at times, this person will say things of their own accord. However, there's usually that one person who really doesn't contribute to the group chat unless a.) someone directly mentions them or b.) they're genuinely interested in the topic at hand.
10. The "Down-to-Clown"
I promise this one isn't what it sounds like... The "Down-to-Clown" is the person who is willing to participate in any conversation the group chat has to offer. It doesn't matter if they don't understand the current topic, they'll chime in and add whatever they can to what everyone else is saying. Sure, they've never watched One Tree Hill or Gilmore Girls, but they have a favorite character and will gladly discuss them with you.
11. The Tag Team
Okay, so this one may be cheating because it's actually two people. These two really only speak as a pair. If one of them is addressed, the other will assist in replying. They're always there to defend each other and (if you're using an app) you might even find them in one another's icons.
So, these are the types of people you'll meet in a group chat. Each one of them brings something different to the group and each one is important. Who knows where we'd be if we didn't have every one of them?
