1. Emotionally preparing yourself
Heading back to school can be overwhelming, exciting and emotional all at the same time. You’re going to be stressing about packing everything you need and about doing well for the upcoming semester. While I’m sure you have been itching to get back to school since we last left, it can be bittersweet leaving your family and friends at home to reunite with your friends back at school.
2. Making your shopping list/ Shopping for supplies
Once school starts, it’s going to be hard to run to the store to get things that you may need. Make sure to make a list of things that you ran out of last semester so you can go pick up all the stuff you’re going to need for both your room and school. Try to go before you pack everything up so that things can be better grouped which will make unpacking that much easier.
3. Packing
Don’t follow in my footsteps; Do this in advance! Packing can be a very overwhelming time. Not only will you be stressed about remembering to bring everything you may want and need, you’ll be wondering whether or not all your belongings are going to fit into the small room you will soon call home.
4. Saying 'Goodbye' to friends and family
Let’s be honest, we love the people that we spent all summer with BUT—by the end of the summer, we’re ready to be reunited with those we haven’t seen since May. When it comes time to say goodbye, make sure to make everyone feel like they got their turn to see you. The last few weeks leading up to your departure can be a bit chaotic when everyone wants to see you and you only have so much time. If you don’t get to see everyone, it’s not a big deal so don’t stress about it.
5. Packing the car
This part is fun. Now that you got all your crap into their designated containers, you need to try to shove it all into the trunk of whatever car you’re driving back to school. Good luck, that’s all I can say on that
6. Getting there
If you go to school far away, this part could last for a while. Half of you will dread making the trek back to your campus. However, the other half will be pumped to see all your friends and that’s what will get you through that grueling car ride.
7. Unload and then: unpack!
Now all that stuff you maneuvered into your has to come out… and quickly. It took forever to get it in there and you’re going to have about 10 minutes to quickly unload your car and get everything into the building before they’re sending you off to the parking lot. After you lug all your stuff up to your new room, the fun part comes when you have to unpack all those boxes. Also, by fun, I mean torturous and you will most definitely hate every second of it.
8. Reunite with friends
Let the yelling and giggling commence! Everyone knows that when college girls unite they tend to not be able to contain their excitement… and they shouldn’t have too. Who isn’t excited to see friends they’ve been apart from for a few months?
9.Finishing touches
Now that your parents have departed and you’re stuff is all set up, you can finally take things at your own pace. Now would be when you would put up all your pictures and decide with your roommates how you’ll use the common grounds. Also, remember when you thought you packed EVERYTHING you needed? Sorry to break it to you, but you didn’t. Therefore, you should probably take a trip down to your local Walmart (like every college student) and pick up everything you forgot.
10. Get ready for the semester ahead
At the end of the day, we’re not here for the dorms or the friends and we need to remember that. After you’ve finished moving in, get yourself situated and prepared for your upcoming semester.
