If you know me, you know I love music. Oldies, pop, I love it all (except country most of the time—sorry). I like to think of myself as pretty well versed in the music world, and here is a list of the most iconic duets in my opinion.
1. Kiki D and Elton John.
“Don’t Go Breakin My Heart” is one of the best duets I’ve personally ever heard. It’s a timeless sing along song, appearing in childhood classics like Chicken Little and Ella Enchanted. And how could you not have the utmost respect for Sir Elton John?
2. Jay Z and Beyonce.
Aside from the fact that they’re the most powerful musical couple ever, I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, Crazy in Love is the most iconic song of our generation. And if you don’t cry while you’re watching clips from the On the Run Tour, you’re lying.
3. Justin Timberlake and Timbaland.
First of all, snaps for JT for staying relevant for basically his entire life. Even more snaps for collaborating with Timbaland and making masterpieces every time. From “Carry Out” to “Cry Me a River”, it’s never a bad thing when these two pair up.
4. Nelly Furtado and Timbaland.
Okay, so I know Timbaland is already on this list but doesn’t everyone know all the words to “Promiscuous”? The moral of the story here is that Timbaland can do no wrong.
5. Sharpay and Ryan.
Name a more extra couple in musical history. I’ll wait. Can’t think of one? That’s because none exist. “Bop to the Top” is one of the most theatrical performances in the entire High School Musical franchise, second only to “Fabulous.”
6. Sean Kingston and Natasha Bedingfield.
You’re lying if you never imagined a “Love Like This.” Get it? Both Sean Kingston and Natasha Bedingfield tore up the early and mid-2000s music scene, and this song is a true treasure.
7. Troy and Gabriella.
If Sharpay and Ryan are on here, Troy and Gabriella need to be too. First of all their story is a dream; girl meets dreamy basketball player with a hidden talent for singing at a ski lodge on New Year's Eve and then winds up transferring to the SAME HIGH SCHOOL AS HIM. Wait, is Gabriella low key a stalker? Not the point. The point is listening to Troy and Gabriella sing got all of us in the pre-teen feels and still does to this day. If that’s not iconic, I don’t know what is.
8. Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey.
I know neither one of them are too relevant anymore, but does anyone else remember when these two covered “A Whole New World”? Pure Disney magic right there.
9. Ariana Grande and Mac Miller.
You can’t help but try and belt out the high notes in “The Way” every time it comes on the radio. Plus this song is 100 times cuter now that they’re actually dating.
10. Paul McCartney and John Lennon.
Yes, technically they were a part of the most amazing foursome in all of musical history. But the songwriting abilities of these two are unparalleled, so I had to give them a spot on this list.
Whether you grew up on Disney Channel original movies, oldies, or you’ve loved pop from then to now, this list has something for everyone. Did Ryan and Sharpay bop to the top of your list, or will Elton John’s creations always be number one in your heart?
