The 10 Best Things That Happened In 2015

It wasn't all that bad.

The 10 Best Things That Happened In 2015

Now that it's 2016, it's time for New Year's resolutions, turning over a new page, and forgetting about whatever bad had happened in the past year. A new year is a new beginning, and it is a time for people to start fresh. However, while most try to forget about the year that had just happened and try to drown out last year's sorrows in champagne and glittery 2016 glasses, some actually take the time to appreciate good things that the past year had brought them. I would like to take the time to think about the best things that happened in 2015.

1. The legalization of gay marriage

By far one of the best moments of 2015 happened in June, when gay marriage was legalized in every state. This day was a making of history and will be recounted for years to come.

2. Achievements in space

This year, multiple findings in space were recorded and celebrated. NASA shared images of Pluto when a satellite finally reached the dwarf planet. Also, 2015 is a time to start planning on sending a man to Mars.

3. Justin Bieber comeback

On a lighter note, the complete 180 of Justin Bieber is one to celebrate. From high pitched "Baby" to the Calvin Klein model singing "Sorry," I think it is safe to say that almost everyone is a Belieber now.

4. The 'lob' trend

Short hair is in again, and thank God for it! Nothing is better than a trend that requires low maintenance, such as a lob. This trendy hairstyle is easy to maintain and looks great.

5. The Star Wars films

Even though I am not a huge fan, it's hard to think about 2015 without thinking about the huge fuss that these movies have caused.

6. The man bun

It is safe to say that I never thought this would be a trend. However, I can say with some confidence that this trend is one of the best things to happen in 2015. Not only is the man bun different, but it is definitely sexy if a guy can pull it off.

7. Hoverboards

We are officially a part of the future with this unique invention. Part skateboard, part Segway, these machines are what all the cool kids are using these days. Move over, Heelys!

8. Short boots trend

A new shoe trend was desperately needed, and 2015 provided us with one. Instead of the tall boots that were becoming very "been there, done that," now short boots are the way to go. Not only are they comfortable, but they are also different and stylish.

9. Saint West

We might not all be huge fans of the Kardashians, but we have to admit that Kim and Kanye's baby, Saint, is one of the cutest babies ever born.

10. The Apple Watch

Along with the hover board, the Apple Watch is further propelling us into the future. Soon, none of us are going to be using iPhones since all the information will become available on our wrists.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
