With all the hate going on in the world I wanted to show some love. It has been on my heart to write about my relationship. I really love my relationship, in every way possible. My relationship has been different from what I am used to. This list is just my experiences and thoughts on interracial relationships from my point of view. These are the simple things I like in my relationship.
1. You become stronger in what you believe.
Where I am from it is not usual to date others of a different race. I did not tell my family I was dating a guy of a different race because I was scared, but when I did some were happy and some weren't. But at the end of the day this guy makes me the happiest person in the world. You can believe that we got some weird looks at first, but two years later and here we are. If anyone would say anything about our relationship I would stand up all the way and defend for what I believe in.
2. You’re realizing a lot more
Unfortunately, we still live in a world where racism is very much alive. As blog posts (like this one), ad campaigns, commercials and the comments sections you can see that there are still people out there in the world who simply still hate to see people of different races together. So if seeing a beautiful, healthy relationship can't change their minds, nothing will.
3. The beautiful children
Secretly, this is probably my favorite thing. I mean from the eye color, skin color and hair they are so beautiful. And I am very excited to have a mixed baby one day (long, long, long down the road).
4. The best Halloween costumes
Arnold and Gerald, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, Salt and Pepper, Milk and Oreos, John Smith and Pocahontas, Shawn and Angela, Crazy Eyes and Piper the list can go on and on. Have fun with it!
5. You make the world a better place.
Mic.com says "The more visible high-profile interracial couples are, the more normalized they become."
6. Potential #RelationshipGoals
There are so many great interracial #RelationshipGoals popping up in the media everyday. Whether you're a Chrissy and John, a Mindy Lahiri and Danny Castellano, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes, Kimye, George and Amal or Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez the list could go on and on.
7. You have an ally against racism.
Being with a guy with another color skin, we both are already making a stand against racism. With everything going on in the world having a constant ally in the fight against racial inequality is proof that there's no inherent bias, just injustice.
8. You see the world through a different perspective.
Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. My boyfriend's perspective on an issue might be completely different from mine but we try to help understand each other and the way we think. Being a black male from a big city to a white girl from a small town we have totally different perspectives on some things. (This could happen with any relationship but with mine it is a little more prominent than my last ones.)
9. To quote Aziz Ansari: "Anytime you have sex with someone of a different race, think about that for a moment. Because nothing feels better than orgasming while thinking about all the progress we've made in civil rights in this country."
Yes, Yes, Yes. God Bless America!
10. You're in a relationship with someone you love and respect.
Honestly, being in an interracial relationship isn't that much different from being in a non-interracial relationship. At the end of the day this is the guy I want to share the rest of my life. This is the guy I can binge watch Netflix with, have a shoulder to cry on, eat pizza with at midnight, and the list goes on and on.
