Even though How I Met Your Mother ended in 2014, this awesome show is one for the classics vault, almost (but not quite) as good as friends. From Ted Mosby's eternal search for love to Barney's perseverance to Lily's motherly advice, read on for the 10 best moments from How I Met Your Mother.
1. The Blue French Horn
The blue french horn symbolized Ted's never ending hope in finding love. When he steals it for Robin at first I thought "who is this creepy man, they've been on one date," but his insanely romantic gesture turns out to be one of the most influential moments of the series. Seriously find yourself a guy who literally says "I would've stolen a whole orchestra for you."
2. The Play Book
The infamous Barney Stinson's playbook was behind the scenes of his recurring "legen-wait-for-it-dary" hookups. Seriously girls, would you walk up to a man in a bar wearing a scuba suit? No. The answer should always be no. Watch season 8, episode 5 if you don't know what I'm talking about.
3. The Red Cowboy Boots
I like to think the red cowboy boots are a symbol of Ted's imagination and quirky personality. He wears them thinking he can "pull them off," even though everyone in the series says otherwise. I mean he's not Ariel from the 1984 Footloose, but I agree with you Ted, you are pulling them off.
4. The Stamp of Approval
Have you ever given your "stamp of approval" on something to a friend and the place you recommended ended up giving them food poisoning or the shirt you said looked great actually made them look like they worked on a corner? Then congratulations! You are Marshall Erikson. However, being positive and forgiving is a great trait to attain. Marshall proves time and time again, he only thinks of people in the best possible light. During the course of the series, people didn't let him down, so If you ask me, that shows you should have faith in people.
5. When Robin says "But Um"
The "but um" scene was one of those great moments that showed Robin's cunningness. While on air at her morning news show, she constantly says "but um," which of course turns into a college drinking game. Figuring this out, Robin says "but um" more than usual and all the college students including Professor Ted Mosby, have the worst hangovers of their lives the next morning.
6. "Have you met Ted?" game
While Ted is not a great wingman, Barney is! If being a great wingman is going up to a random girl and saying "Hi there, Haaaave you met Ted?" Surprisingly enough most of the time it works. This scene was great because it is one of those classic oneliners that sticks with the series all the way through. If I'm being honest, I've used it to help a friend out and it has my stamp of approval, it works.
7. The Ducky Tie
While Barney may be smiling in this picture, trust me he is crying on the inside. Barney is all about the spit and polish so naturally Marshall and Barney make a bet over the unstylish ducky tie. If Barney can do every move that the cooks do in Hibachi places, then Barney can touch Lily's breast for 30 seconds. Of course, Barney said "challenge accepted." However, Lily ends up flashing Barney anyway on the last move, making him lose concentration and ending with him wearing the ducky tie for one whole year.
8. "Let's go to the Mall!"
Robin Sherbatsky or Robin Sparkles? In season 2, episode 9, Robin's alter ego was discovered. She was a teen-pop sensation in Canada and the gang was not going to let this one go. Eventually two more hit singles were discovered, "P.S. I love you," and "Sandcastles." With Robin's fear of malls finally discovered, I mean it makes sense, I wouldn't want to go back to a mall either.
9. The Slap Bet
Originally the bet concluded in Marshall getting to slap Barney five times, whenever Marshall felt like it. However, three extra slaps were added on when Barney took off the ducky tie before the year was up. Marshall chose his slaps wisely and in no great haste, giving Barney a false sense of security right before the slap. So, in the wise words of Marshall Erikson, what day is it? Slapsgiving.
10. The Yellow Umbrella
The yellow umbrella was another classic symbol during the series that stood for the mystery of who the mother was. The umbrella was actually the mothers until Ted found it, eventually Ted left it somewhere and the mother got her umbrella back again. But this captures the meaning behind the show of how life and fate are intertwined. Ted was so close to meeting the women he was meant to be with during his life but fate made him hold out until the exact right moment. That is when everything fell into place. This show proves that eventually love comes to everyone, it is just when you least expect it.
So there you go, the 10 best moments from How I Met Your Mother. Now that you've read this, suit up, and make everyday legen-wait-for-it-dary.
