The 10 Best Memes of 2016

We can pretty much all universally agree, 2016 was a pretty rough year. Whether it was personal struggles, or issues that affected the world over, everyone felt the pain this year. Thankfully, though we were all put through the ringer, not everyone lost their humor. The Internet has truly outdone itself this year. With that being said, here are some of the most memorable memes of 2016.

1. The Kermit Darkside Meme

This meme was everywhere in 2016 and there was a version of it to fit almost any situation. This particular version of the meme pretty much sums up everyone’s reactions to everything this year, though.

2. Confused Math Lady Meme

Like the Kermit meme, there were several versions of this meme to fit multiple situations, and each version was equally as funny as the last

3. Damn Daniel

Of the many bizarre reasons people on the Internet become famous, this was definitely one of the weirdest, especially since this kid in white Vans and his friend rose to the level of fame to be able to appear on Ellen. Damn.

4. The Why You Always Lying Meme

Not only was the song hilarious, but the dance moves in the video and the memes that were produced out of it were funny as well.

5. The Papaw Meme

This one was heartbreaking. However, the response from the Internet, in which tons of people showed up for dinner with Papaw, proved that there is faith in humanity.

6. The Justin Beiber as a Waiter Meme

There has been no shortage of roasting Justin Beiber over the last few years, and 2016 was not an exception, although this year was tamer than years past.

7. The Obama and Biden Memes

While the presidential election was an emotional rollercoaster for everyone, and many of us are sad to see these two leave the White House, at least we have these memes, and hilarious (and let's be honest, fabricated) memories to remember them by.

8. The Troy Bolton Meme

Yes, High School Musical came out 10 years ago, but Troy Bolton is still as relevant as ever, and his awkward posing made for some funny memes for 2016.

9. The Leo Winning an Oscar Meme

We’ve all been waiting for this moment for over 20 years. And when it finally happened this year, the Internet absolutely lost it. I guess 2016 wasn’t all bad.

10. The Arthur Hand in a Fist Meme

I don’t know about you, but this one made me laugh out loud every time I saw it.

The year 2016 definitely had many ups and downs, but luckily, the people of the Internet were there for us to inject humor into any and every situation when life got us down. I can’t wait to see what the year 2017 will bring, and all of the Internet’s responses to it all.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
