Just about everything that exists can be reviewed critiqued, and criticized. For many of us, one "trusted" opinion completely changes the way we approach (or don't bother approaching) something.
So what happened to our independence? What happened to having your own opinions and beliefs? Why is it so easy to rely on others for information we could fairly easily glean for ourselves?
I am a very strong-willed, opinionated individual. I don't like being challenged, and tend to get involved in discussions, debates, and even arguments that can start from the tiniest, insignificant things.
I also happen to like movies. A LOT.
It's normal to ask questions and do a little research before watching a movie, just to make sure it's worth your time and money. I see no harm in that, but what I do have a problem with, is putting all your faith in sources like Rotten Tomatoes.
I mean, seriously? C'mon guys. You should know better than that by now.
If you tend to agree with most of their reviews AFTER seeing for yourself, then fine. I can respect that. But DO NOT let that completely influence your final decision!
I have seen countless movies that made me question Rotten Tomatoes' ability to critique films. The Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, various Star Wars movies, The Dark Knight, The Lord of the Rings, Inception, The Matrix. All of which were given negative reviews, yet almost anyone I asked told me they very much enjoyed those movies!
Of course, there are also those who just sit back and let their friends tell them what to think. GUYS!!!! PLEASE get a mind of your own!!
I had the opportunity to see Suicide Squad the night it premiered, and I'll admit, I was skeptical. Though my hopes and expectations were high, I was concerned that I would be let down and disappointed. Jared Leto was not who I would have picked for the role of the Joker. I wasn't sure how I felt about Will Smith, and I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into.
I had plenty of people tell me they already expected the worst, and wouldn't bother to waste their time, but I was too hyped by that point to call it quits, so I went.
No regret, at all, whatsoever.
I was pleasantly taken back by the way the characters were portrayed, and the way their stories were told. Jared Leto is no Heath Ledger, but I think he was perfect for this darling Harley Quinn.
Look, the point is, as with anything in life, you can't believe everything you hear and you can't always trust your first impressions. Learn the facts before you form an opinion.
