I am seeking to expose the lives of other UNT students. I want to hear about our awesome differences, experiences, and tips! I want to celebrate them.

So, for our first interview, I've got Keith Kellerman. He is a 24-year-old junior here at UNT as an interdisciplinary art and design studies major, with a minor in hospitality management.

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Tall. Unusual. Clueless.

What does your life say about you?

I am generally unmotivated and lazy. And I've been very lucky, been through very few hardships, and had good family and education.

How would your friends describe you?

That one guy.

Which fictional character do you believe is the most like yourself?

Holden Caulfield from "The Catcher in the Rye." He's inside his own head and a little weird and crazy like me.

How did you choose your major?

I wanted to be communication design but couldn't spend four more years on a degree. The minor is because I started with hospitality and management so I already had the credits for those classes.

What is the one thing that should be taught in school that isn’t already?

Taxes and personal finances! It should be taught in high school. I had a teacher in high school that went over some of that and it was very helpful.

What has been your biggest struggle as a student?

Finances.

What do you think is unique about your experience here at UNT?

I've been in school for six years so I've seen the university grow and change more than most undergrads will.

How has that unique quality affected you? Help? Hurt? Change?

If anything it has just motivated me to finish.

Recall the craziest thing you have experienced as a student.

Getting a new roommate halfway through the semester and he barely spoke any English. He was a music student from Japan who played the tuba.

If you could give one piece of advice on how to “survive” as a student that has been in school for extended amount of time, what would it be?

Get plenty of rest and do your homework. Buckle up and get your shit done.

What are your life and career goals in five, 10 and 15 years?

5 years

Graduated and working for a design company.

10 years

I want to be successful in what I am doing and making money. I would also have liked to have gone to every continent. I've been to two so far.

15 years

Hopefully I know what I'm doing.

What is your biggest success up until now?

That I got this far without dying.

What is your funniest or favorite childhood memory?

Going to the air show with my granddad.

Of all your pet-peeves, which is the strangest?

Hearing people drink or swallow over the phone.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?

As a freshman, I got locked out of my dorm room after taking a shower.

Are you more of a night owl or a morning person?

Depends on what's going on. Right now, working at a bar, I'm a night owl. But when I was working at a breakfast place, a morning person.

Is it better to beg forgiveness or ask permission?

Ask permission.

Which is more logical to follow—your heart or your head?

By that statement alone, your head.

University or life experience, which do you feel best prepares you for the future?

Life experiences, because they teach you what it's like in the world. University only teaches you general knowledge.

Would you prefer to be smart or happy, and why?

Happy, because being smart isn't all that.

What is your greatest fear?

Dying young.

How do you handle people you don’t like?

I ignore them. Be curt as possible.

What are your three weaknesses?

Bullets. Poison. And spiders.

What is your biggest regret in life so far?

Not finishing school sooner.

Did you learn anything interesting? Something you didn't expect simply because of who Keith visually is? Do you have something unique about you that people wouldn't expect? Send me an email at saraafry@gmail.com.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
