That 'Interesting Fact' Question

The right answer is too hard to find.

That 'Interesting Fact' Question
modernlegends.net

Every first week of school, I become aware of how many strange details I do or do not know about myself.

Theoretically, asking new students to share their most interesting facts after introductions is a great get-to-know-you technique, but it always makes me think over my life a little too seriously. I tend to go for the fact that I am a vegetarian just because that is interesting, but I also cannot think of anything else, though I know my interesting facts must be wedged somewhere in my history. Therefore, I would like to brainstorm all of the facts I have so I can begin to pull from them whenever I introduce myself in front of a class.

1.I eat pancakes without maple syrup and biscuits without jelly because I do not like maple syrup or jelly.

I also have family members who share each of these hatreds.

2. In third grade, I played Vincent Van Gogh in a living museum.

He was my third choice for who I would present; Walt Disney was my first, Elizabeth Blackwell my second. I wore an ear patch and everything.

3. I have never been on a cruise.

4. I am left handed, and my mom says that when I first began to write, I wrote my name from right to left and every letter was backwards.

5. When someone asks me about my favorite place, the first place I think of is any airport.

An airport is a weird place in between different places that loads up with stores to entertain people in the middle of their journeys. I like the busy nature, diversity, and placelessness of airports.

6. Both times that I have been out of the country have been without my parents.

7. I remember being extremely OCD about the colors of my clothing as an elementary school student.

Pink and blue could never go together; even pink shirts and jeans could not go together. I even hated wearing my powder blue backpack while wearing pink.

8. I did not get a real cell phone until I was in eighth grade.

I did not get an iPhone until the end of my sophomore year of high school, and in the end, I am glad I stuck it out that long without too much complaining.

9. I have always lived in the same house.

10. I never used my agenda in fifth grade, so when I learned that I had to turn it in to be graded, I went back and wrote my assignments in every page for the whole year.

11. I have never dyed my whole head of hair.

The only part that I have dyed is a section of the bottom layer that I dyed red in tenth grade.

12. There have been two times in my life in which I have prevented huge fires from happening.

One was when I was eight or nine years old, and one was this summer. While the lurking destruction may have only been a possibility, in both situations, there was no one else to stop the fires but myself.

13. My driver’s license picture looks like I am trying to disguise myself.

I have no bangs, long hair, glasses, and a red streak of hair.

14. I am a Slytherin. I took the official test.

15. When I was in fourth grade, I won a poster contest out of 11,000 entries within the state of Alabama for the Region’s Charity Classic golf tournament.

I received a computer, a digital camera, and a $100 savings bond that I have forgotten about until right now.

16. John Green’s father-in-law was my surgeon in 2013.

17. When I took the PSAT for the first time, I had no idea what to put as my career interest.

I just put journalism because it sounds cool and it is Rory Gilmore’s study of choice. Now, four years later, I am actually interested in journalism. I could have gone to three different public high schools.

Even looking back at these facts, none are standing out to me as what's most interesting about my life, but at least I have a list to pull from during my next icebreaker. Good luck to all of you out there who have to find that interesting fact, it will come to you at some point.

It is that time of year again. Christmastime. It is one of my favorite seasons for a myriad of reasons. Here are just a few reasons why I love Christmas. This list is in no order of importance.

1. The Christmas decorations

I am that person who will decorate directly after Thanksgiving is over. This year, my roommates and I put the tree up in our apartment before we even left for Thanksgiving break. It is a great stress reliever for me to just sit in my living room and work on the huge amount of work I have before the semester is over.

Mistakes are something we all make, no matter how old we get. Most of the time, the mistakes we made are little and sometimes due to something out of our control. Yet, there are mistakes that are bigger than others. Personally, I have mistakes that I wish I could go back and undo. Here they are:

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?
