Mother’s Day Weekend has already come and gone, and with that, our social media news feeds will no longer be flooded with sappy mom appreciation posts. I posted one myself, as I do every year. But at the same time, I still found myself wondering why oftentimes, we only take one day a year to express our gratitude towards the amazing women who have raised us. One day of pampering is amazing, and I know for my mom especially, she deserves a whole day to herself. But I appreciate all she does for me day in and day out, and I want to say thank you for a few of those things.
Mom, thank you for being the best housekeeper I’ve ever met. It may seem like a silly thing to be thankful for, but you have definitely taught me how important it is to take pride in our home and in our possessions. Plus, I swear you have a talent for making your home and your laundry smell fresher than literally anything else.
Thank you for your eternal support of each and every path I choose to take in life, but also telling me straight if I am being dumb about something (Except for giving me bangs at a haircut as a child, those were slightly questionable). It happens, I’m making my way through college, and you somehow always know the right thing to say to encourage me to make the right decision, big or small.
Thank you for teaching me to help save our planet by recycling. Thank you for drinking wine with me and judging celebrities red carpet outfits. Thank you for years of homework help, and being just as bad as math as I am. Thank you for teaching me how to bake, and how to drive. Thank you for teaching me about Jesus, and being like Him by always offering your love and forgiveness to those around you.
Thank you for passing down your caffeine addiction to me, because one of my favorite things to do is being able to bond over Cafe Dolce dates with you. Thank you for teaching me about the fun things in life, surface deep interests like makeup, hair, and clothes, pretty things. But, thank you for teaching me these things are not what matters most, and inner beauty is what makes a person truly pretty. Being strong makes you pretty, being smart makes you pretty, and being kind makes you pretty. Thank you for teaching me to carry myself with grace and class, and loving me even if fail to do so once in a while.
Thank you for loving my crazy friends over the years, and always letting them come over whenever they wanted. I’m sure there were times you would have rather had a quiet house but instead, you welcomed everyone into our home, and thanks to you, they always loved being there.
Mom, you have taught me so much over the years, and you will always be my go-to for life advice. You somehow know how to always say the right thing at the right time, for that, I am forever grateful. Thank you, for everything you have and continue to give me, but most of all, thank you for just being my mom.
