Thank You, Music

Lay down.

Close your eyes.

And just listen.

These three actions have been my safe haven through years of trouble and triumph, happiness and heartbreak and clarity and confusion. Music can calm me like no other. It brings me rest and allows me to completely clear my mind. It's the beat, the words, the melodies and harmonies. It's everything about. Music takes me away from what I cannot understand on this earth. It pumps me up more than ever. It sets my mind on the best parts of my life.

Obviously, music does a lot. So here's some songs to express the magical truth about it.

Music gives you the thoughts you are unable form.

Expressed in "Breathe" by Taylor Swift (featuring Colbie Caillat)

"And we know it's never simple, never easy;
Never a clean break, no one here to save me,
You're the only one I know like the back of my hand.
And I can't breathe without you
but I have to breathe without you
But I have to."

Music gives you the memories you will never forget.

Expressed in "Forever" by Chris Brown.

"It's you, and me
Movin' at the speed of light into eternity (yeah)
Tonight, is the night
To join me in the middle of ecstasy"

Music gives you truth to believe in.

Expressed in "On Fire" by Switchfoot.

"But everything inside you knows
There's more than what you've heard
There's so much more than empty conversations
Filled with empty words"

Music gives direction to your soul.

Expressed in "Come To Me" by Bethel Music (feat. Jenn Johnson).

"I am the Lord your God,
I go before you now.
I stand beside you.
I'm all around you.
...
Come to me, i'm all you need.
Come to me, I'm your everything."

Music gives you all the good feels.

Expressed in "Here Comes The Sun" by The Beatles

"Here comes the sun. (Doo doo doo doo)
Here comes the sun and I say,
It's all right.
Sun, sun, sun here it comes.
Sun, sun, sun here it comes.
Sun, sun, sun here it comes.

Music gives you an outlet...when you really, really need one.

Expressed in "Since U Been Gone" by Kelly Clarkson.

"But since you been gone
I can breathe for the first time
I'm so moving on
Yeah, yeah
Thanks to you
Now I get what I want
Since you been gone"

Music gives your heart a chance to hurt.

Expressed in "When A Heart Breaks" by Ben Rector.

"I woke up this morning
And I heard the news
I know the pain of a heartbreak
I don't have answers
And neither do you
I know the pain of a heartbreak."

Music gives you the best tunes to party hardy.

Expressed in "Shut Up And Dance With Me" by Walk The Moon.

"Oh don't you dare look back
Just keep your eyes on me
I said you're holding back
She said shut up and dance with me
This woman is my destiny
She said oh oh oh
Shut up and dance with me."

Music gives your heart a chance to hurt.

Expressed in "When A Heart Breaks" by Ben Rector.

"I woke up this morning
And I heard the news
I know the pain of a heartbreak
I don't have answers
And neither do you
I know the pain of a heartbreak."

Music gives you the words to pray.

Expressed in "Your Glory/Nothing But The Blood" by All Sons & Daughters

"Cause Your glory is so beautiful.
I fall onto my knees in awe.
And the heartbeat of my life,
Is to worship in Your light.
'Cause Your glory is so beautiful."

Thank you music, for giving me the life I have, the peace I find, the joy I experience and the escape I so often need. Keep up the good work!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
