A Thank You Letter To My Mom

A Thank You Letter To My Mom

Hi mommy,

I know I'm 19 and should probably just shorten that to "Mom" but I'll still be your little girl no matter what. Recently, you've been very emotional about how me, your "little girl," is growing up. Turning 20 this year has thrown your view point off kilter and I'm sorry that I can't slow down my growing up process.

You've always talked to me like I was an adult, which is why we're probably friends more than anything. But thank you for actually treating me like one and letting me make my own decisions, no matter how crappy some of them might be.

Thank you for being the great mom that you are. You have always worked so hard for my brother and I that I sometimes forget that you have a life outside of us.

Thank you for teaching me how to be a woman. Thank you for teaching me how to do make up and cook. I appreciate you not letting me always look like a swamp monster.

Thank you for dealing with my crap. I know I'm not the most pleasant of personalities sometimes and I apologize for that.

Thank you for going back to school to further your education. Not only for yourself, you're doing it for all of us and I love you for that.

Thank you for making me still believe in love. After everything you have been through in your life, you have still managed for find love in unexpected places and have made me believe that I can too.

Thank you for being so generous. You're always to giving to everyone. Thank you for teaching me that it's okay to give others things even if you can barely afford it.

Thank you for showing me courage. The courage you showed when you were getting tested for cancer because of that lump was tremendous and I'm so proud that you're my mom.

Thank you for being a "cool mom." You've done things with and for me that other moms would never even think of. Because of you being a cool mom, I like to think of myself as very "grounded." As in, I didn't let wild in college because I was already used to having freedom.

Thank you for being you. Thank you for being the beautiful, spunky, loud soul that you are. Without you, I would not be the me that I am today. Like I said the other day, "people always ask where I get it from." I get it from you.

I want you to know that just because I'm growing up and getting ready to fly completely on my own, out of the nest, you will always be my mommy and I will always be your little girl. The bond that we have formed over the years in unbreakable and I am so grateful for that. No matter where life takes us, we will still have each other. Maybe I'll even teach you how to use Skype! I know that life holds great things for us still and I cannot wait for the best to come.

With lots of love,

Hannah

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
