It’s that time of the year again! The universities close, the weather becomes cooler, the breezes become softer, your nights end with a fire and hot cocoa – it’s a time to relax and be with the ones you love. It was hard to narrow it down, but I think I have found the top 10 best things about Thanksgiving!
1. Sweater weather.
Thanksgiving in most places is the first time you can finally wear the cute winter clothes you bought on clearance at the end of last year’s winter season.
2. It’s the kickoff to the Holiday Season!
Yes, yes, yes, nowadays you hear Christmas music before you even get to go trick-or-treating but that doesn’t make it right! The official kick-off is definitely Thanksgiving Day!
3. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
In my household, it is tradition to watch the parade every Thanksgiving morning and it gives me the warmest feeling inside to think about it! The Christmas season does not officially start until Santa passes by Macy’s Department Store in New York.
4. Family and friends.
One of my most favorite things is hands down the time I am able to spend with my family. My family is always together, just about every weekend, but there is something special about getting to sit around the turkey Thanksgiving evening.
5. Time off.
Whether it’s just Thanksgiving day or the whole week, any holiday time is always appreciated!
6. Decorating for Christmas.
Nothing brings the family together more than pulling out the dusty boxes and putting up the tree. Decorating for the holidays is one of the most fun traditions out there and after thanksgiving it becomes socially acceptable!
7. THE FOOD.
I think we can all agree the food is probably the best part about Thanksgiving. Whether you are like me and love cooking it, or are also like me and love to eat it – the wide arrange of food had at thanksgiving literally takes the cake!
8. Black Friday.
Between eating, sleeping, and eating some more there is barely time for much else – except for shopping! Who can turn down Black Friday deals? If not for the deals, the day after Thanksgiving is also the best day for people watching.
9. Going home.
Every college kid cannot wait to leave home for school, but come Thanksgiving it’s time to get home. There is nothing like being able to sleep in your own bed and wake up to your mother’s breakfast.
10. The giving.
Now, you do not have to wait until this time of the year to give but there is something beautiful about making someone’s holiday better. It’s important to remember that there are many people out there who have so much less than we do. Doing your part in giving makes the holiday season better for all.
This Thanksgiving, amongst the food, shopping, and decorating don’t forget the meaning behind it. Remember to thank your mothers and fathers, aunts and uncles, and everyone you care about for all they do. After all, it is a time of giving thanks!
What are your favorite things about the Thanksgiving holiday? Is it the food? The family? Or the fact that it’s a promise that Christmas is right around the corner?
