An epidemic has struck our nation and continues to get worse each and every year. As soon as November 1st comes around, boom, it is suddenly Christmas time.

Before I go any further, I would like to make a disclaimer that I am a huge holiday person. I love the holidays and in no way shaming Christmas time, because hello?! How could anyone hate on Christmas?!

But what I am saying is that there seems to be one important holiday skipped over—Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving is definitely one of my most favorite days of the entire year and here are 13 reasons why this day should not be forgotten about:

1. THE FOOD.

Okay seriously though, I think everyone can agree that Thanksgiving food is the best food. TURKEY, HAM, MASHED POTATOES, PUMPKIN PIE. Shall I go on?

2. Being with family.

Thanksgiving is the perfect time to reunite with your family members and catch them up on your life, see those you haven't seen in a while, and hold your baby cousins!

3. Watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Brewing a fresh cup of coffee and laying in bed watching the Macy's Parade sounds like paradise.

4. And the National Dog Show right afterward.

After the Macy's Parade ends, you may or may not be too cozy, which means you can just stay in bed and get your dog watching on.

5. No pressure of buying gifts.

Thanksgiving is great because it is basically just like Christmas, except you don't have to spend thousands of dollars on gifts and there is no pressure! It also means there is more focus on simply enjoying spending time with your family.

6. Big announcements.

Is it just me or does anyone else feel like Thanksgiving is the perfect time to make some big family announcements? Your family is all together which is a perfect time to tell them, "Hey I have a new boyfriend/girlfriend!" or "By the way, I got engaged last week!" or "Okay everyone, we are having a baby!"

7. Thanksgiving-themed TV episodes.

You can definitely binge watch some of the best shows on TV with their Thanksgiving-themed episodes!

8. Thanksgiving break.

Can I get an amen?! Thanksgiving break is the absolute perfect little getaway from the stress of school and is long enough to go home or on a vacation! Plus, when you go back to school, there are only 2 weeks until finals...and then another break!

9. Friendsgiving.

This has become more and more popular throughout the years, where now friends gather and make their own Thanksgiving feast! This is so important because as you get older, friends start to move away, and what better way to reunite than over a Thanksgiving turkey?!

10. The smells.

Thanksgiving smells like fall leaves, warm pumpkin spice lattes, roasted turkey, cinnamon, and sugar. Mmmmmm!

11. Football.

Turn on the fireplace, kick back, and watch America's favorite sport with your family.

12. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.

Some of the cutest and most popular characters of all time have their own movie about Thanksgiving, how could you forget about this?!

13. Traditions.

Every family has a tradition on Thanksgiving, whether it is just going to your grandma's house or going around the dinner table and saying everything that you are thankful for. These traditions bring family closer together, which is what it's all about.

See!! Thanksgiving is awesomely important! But once it's the day after Thanksgiving...BRING ON THE CHRISTMAS TREES!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
