Thanksgiving: The Pregame Meal Before Black Friday

I cannot wait to go home and enjoy a nice home cooked meal. Thanksgiving is my time of the year! It is one of the most underrated holidays of the year, especially with all of the Black Friday commercials. I live for this festive event because nothing says life is good better than having a table filled with a wide variety of Thanksgiving dishes, along with some traditional family dishes. College is great, but the food will never come close to what is waiting for me on Thanksgiving Day. However, it makes me ask the question, "Why does Thanksgiving not get credit it deserves?"

I love my family very much and being away from home to go to school only makes me appreciate them even more. It is sad that as a nation it’s like everyone is more focused on getting a good shopping deal than actually spending time with their loved ones. Don’t get me wrong, good deals are always awesome! I live for Cyber Monday, but is it right that lines start before most families sit down for their Thanksgiving meals? Also most Black Friday commercials start the week of Halloween.

Why are deals that important? I get hyped when I can get a ton of stuff for a low price and save money, but food is where most of my money goes so I guess that’s why I never cared for going Black Friday shopping. I know people can argue that they would go Black Friday shopping with family members and still get the quality family time. Just like Thanksgiving dinner. My only argument with that is why is it so important to go out and wait in line outside a Wal-Mart for at least 5 hours? Especially if you live in a state that has bad weather then you will be freezing for that time.

To me, Thanksgiving and Black Friday are complete opposites in meaning. Thanksgiving is more geared to old fashion tradition, as in we just do it, but don’t question it. While Black Friday is slowly becoming a tradition, but is still powered by advertisements. Thanksgiving has a background history dating back to the Pilgrims and Native Americans where both sides celebrated their harvest by eating food. Now, this holiday is a really big family meal that extends to relatives and close friends. As an American, it is a holiday based on tradition. Your parents celebrated Thanksgiving, just like their parents, and when you have a family you will do the same thing. Black Friday on the other hand is an effective sales promotion that gets people ready, prepared, and focused on all major deals going on. Major retail businesses heavily promote what they will have on sale on all major media outlets throughout November, so by Midnight on Black Friday the doors will open and thousands of people nationwide will swarm into stores.

At the end of the day everyone will be getting ready for Black Friday. There is no doubt in my mind about and I will be just chilling on my couch eating pie, watching football.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.
