It happens every year. Immediately after Halloween, the Christmas playlists begin . Don't get me wrong, I think Christmas is a super important and meaningful time of the year. I love the Christmas spirit and everything about the season, I just hate that the spirit and value of Thanksgiving gets lost in the midst.
It bothers me that Thanksgiving is so overlooked because we get so excited to finally bake cookies and drive around looking for twinkly lights, but Thanksgiving is just as celebratory and has its special elements too. There's a feast of deliciousness, football and naps, time with loved ones and depending on where you live, the weather could still be warm.
I know Thanksgiving is frequently forgotten and often sneaks up on us, but it is such a special time to take a step back and reflect on all of our blessings and how we love others. To me, Thanksgiving is an invitation to serve others who may not have as much of a privileged Thanksgiving as I do as I'm surrounded by great food and a loving family. It's so easy to show love to others during this season and exemplify thanks through our actions. Whether you're grateful for community, health, or certain opportunities you've been granted, Thanksgiving gives you an outlet to have intrinsic conversations with yourself about why you do what you do and to count the blessings you have. This season, I'm encouraging myself to go above and beyond to serve others and extend my gratitude for the life I live. I encourage you to do the same during this Thanksgiving, whether it's inviting someone over to your home for a Thanksgiving meal or showing your loved ones how thankful you are for them by doing something special, like writing them a sweet note or baking them their favorite treat.
I'm all for being jolly, Christmas decorations and blasting Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" on repeat. But until December, it's all about Thanksgiving for me.
