Thanksgiving, by definition, is an annual national holiday marked by religious observances and a traditional meal including turkey. The holiday commemorates a harvest festival celebrated by the Pilgrims in 1621, and is held in the U.S. on the fourth Thursday in November.

It is also a holiday that not celebrated around the world and in my country, England. That being said it is one of my favorite holidays now that I have experienced it. Here are some things I have learned and love about Thanksgiving.

Stuffing

I'll say it, one of the best foods of Thanksgiving is stuffing. Also worth popping into William Sonoma at this time of year too, their tasters are frequent and fresh.

Family Fun

I am adopted into my second home for Thanksgiving and absolutely love it, there is such excitement in the atmosphere it is like a mini Christmas! Family members travel from all over and everyone is ready for the long weekend.

Other Foods

People would joke with me that Thanksgiving is a holiday of foods, but it literally is. The only acceptable holiday for Mac and Cheese. You have so many carbs it is just wonderful.

Dog Costumes

Instagram the night of Thanksgiving is enough to be grateful for in itself.

Being Thankful

It is actually very necessary to have a holiday in which to reflect upon what you have in your life and to show the people around you how much they mean to you and your happiness. I am thankful for so much, it is nice to have a day to express it.

Wherever you are, Happy Thanksgiving!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
