Why Thanksgiving Is The Best Thing Ever For College Students

You'll never be more thankful for Thanksgiving than now.

Thanksgiving is a happy time for everyone. It's filled with family, football, festivities and, of course, food. However, for us college students, it's the light at the end of the tunnel, and pretty much the best thing ever. I think it's safe to say that we might be the most thankful of all. Here are six things about Thanksgiving that you'll most definitely be able to relate to if you're a college student.

1. You get to go home.

For some of you (especially those of you who go to school out-of-state), this is the first time you'll be going home since the beginning of the semester. By this point you're missing your bed, your friends and even your parents terribly. Being home reminds you of how glorious it is to have someone else cook and do the laundry for you.

2. You get to see your dog.

What's even better than just being home is the fact that your dog's there too! You've probably missed him more than anybody. After all, FaceTiming doesn't him work as well as it does with your parents (trust me, I've tried).

3. You get a break from school.

You're at the point in the semester where every week is mid-term week, and just when you're not sure if you'll survive or not, Thanksgiving break arrives. That means no early morning classes, no late night study sessions and no exams. It's exactly what you need to get you through to the end.

4. You get to eat real food.

After 12+ weeks of eating dining hall food, you not only get a home cooked meal, but the best home cooked meal OF THE YEAR. You're mouth is probably watering right now as you think about the feast that you're about to have.

5. You finally get to catch up on sleep.

For the past few weeks you've been running on pretty much just adrenaline, caffeine and the fear that you'll fail your calculus exam. You've forgotten what it's like to get a good night's sleep and to wake up without without bags under your eyes. Fortunately, when eating is your only obligation for a few days, you have the opportunity to finally get those eight hours of shut-eye that you're supposed to have.

6. You're reminded of how much you have to be thankful for.

Sure, college is tough, and sometimes it seems like it would be a lot easier to just give up, but this holiday reminds you that you actually have a lot to be thankful for. You go to a great school, you have a great home and you're surrounded by people who love you (and tasty food).

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
