Today, I am taking a slight tangent from my typical article style. It is almost Thanksgiving, and let me tell you, I am beyond ready! This is my first year as a college student away from home, and it has been a somewhat stressful semester. From being away from my tight knit family, not seeing my best friends every weekend like I was used to, to just the general level of stress that comes with the college work load. But this week, I come home and get to put that all behind me for at least a little while, that, and I get to have some of my grandma's pumpkin pie!
As a college student, Thanksgiving is also a sort of 'soft reset' for how your life works. Let me explain. Some of you might be familiar with this, but the college life brings lot of all nighters, bad eating/drinking habits, that is if you do not skip meals, and the lack of excercise. Ever heard of the Freshman 15? Coming homes means you can take it easy, as your work load is light if not non existent, thanks to the semester being nearly offer. That means you can get to bed at a reasonable time, or at least getting better sleep, and more of it.
Now, if you are like me, you pig out a little bit on Thanksgiving. And while that is not necessarily 'healthy eating,' it reminds you that there is more than the typical college grub out there in the world! Hell, you might be able to take some back to your dorm with you (that is if your family does not make claims to the leftovers).
Well, personally, when it comes to the exercise portion of that 'reset,' you might just feel the need to hit the gym every so often, especially after feeling terrible about yourself only hours after dinner. I know I feel like pretty insecure stuffing my face while watching the Turkey-Day Football game! It reminds you that a healthy mind and body make for the best recipe for college success, so hopefully you will start to apply that mantra once school starts back up.
So, be thankful for the lessons you could learn from Thanksgiving this year! I hope it is as good for you as I think mine will be. Oh, and one more thing, do not touch the last piece of pumpkin pie! I called dibs months ago!
