Thanksgiving Break: the final break before the madness that is the end of the semester. You envision yourself stuffing your face with turkey, relaxing with the family and catching up with old friends. The reality is much different. With a little help from Bob's Burgers, let us understand the reality that is Thanksgiving Break.
When you get stuck in traffic on the drive home:
The stress begins as soon as you pull out of the parking lot. The desire to get home quickly amplifies your road rage.
When you finally get home and see your mom:
No one can squeeze all the air out of you quite like your mother. Also, her sixth sense for knowing that it has been your toughest semester yet is way too in tune.
When your get put on kitchen duty to help prep the Thanksgiving dinner:
So much for hours spent relaxing.
When you promptly get taken off kitchen duty because you're only making things worse:
You almost feel offended, but you're honestly just happy to have time to relax again.
When your mom reveals every embarrassing secret she knows about you to the entire family:
"Oh honey, do you remember when you were 12 and-"
"I was hoping that moment would be erased from history but thanks, Mom."
When your far more successful cousin starts boasting about their accomplishments in front of the entire family:
Nothing makes you feel more inadequate than your cousin who just got offered a paid internship at a huge law firm before they even graduate.
When it is finally dinner and the only conversation you need to make is asking people to pass the food:
Any time anyone asks you what your plans are after graduation, just shove a giant spoonful of mashed potatoes in your mouth. No one can talk with a mouthful of mashed potatoes.
When you try to hide from your family that you've had one glass of wine too many:
No, I'm not drunk-- I'm just a tittle lipsy. I mean, a little tipsy.
When your mom spends hour running around the house and entertaining family and you start to feel ignored:
Mom, you haven't seen me in months. You don't need to talk to anyone else. Only me.
When your younger cousins start talking about how they can't wait to grow up and go away to college:
Don't worry. You will be dead on the inside one day too.
When you get put on post-dinner cleanup duty:
The cleaning never ends. This mountain of dishes will never be gone.
When you love your family but you are ready for them to go home and not see them again until Christmas:
Your family is awesome. You don't know what you would do without them. But all of them in one place all day long takes it's toll.
When you you run into old high school friends and you realize how much you have changed:
Running in to people that you used to be close to makes you realize that three years of college can turn you into an almost unrecognizable person.
When you go to a party with all of your old friends from high school and you have to set your limit:
It is difficult to strike the balance between "I can't get through this night without alcohol" and "I need to not embarrass myself in front of all these people."
When Thanksgiving Break ends and you need to face the reality of going back to school:
Spending the week at home really felt like you were living in the lap of luxury. You'll miss home, but you really do love your life at college.
