Thanksgiving Break is a great time for college students.
It's a time to catch up with family and see all of your best friends from high school again. But let's be real it's so much more than that. It's a time for some great food, a nice large bed that isn't lofted ten feet in the air, and a break from the pounds of school work and stress that have been piling up since the start of the semester.
Everyone does Thanksgiving with their families differently, but here are a few stages that we all experience during this special time of year.
The Arrival and Planning
Arriving home is one of the best feelings ever--just collapsing in your bed and using a restroom that isn't shared by 20 other girls makes it so worth the trip. Then comes the planning. Everyone does it. Your day is practically planned out to the minute, filled with all the things you need to do and people you want to see. But in reality, most of that time will be spent napping or Netflixing.]
Seeing friends equals hearing about their new lives in their new homes aka gossip time!! Everyone loves catching up with their hometown favorites to hear the newest details about each other's lives.
When there are still two hours left til meal time and you're absolutely starving is the worst. Everyone's been there, we all know how this one goes.
The best part of the whole week is that first bite of the delicious food you've been anticipating all day (or all month). From then on, it's a feast fit to fuel the freshman fifteen.
Overeating. It happens on Thanksgiving. Deep contemplation comes into play when debating seconds (or thirds?) Don't get the extra serving of dressing...or why not? Do it. Thanksgiving only comes once a year.
All that savory turkey and creamy mashed potatoes have you in a food coma. A long post Thanksgiving nap is always mandatory.
Going out and spending tons of money right after saying we're thankful for what we have? That makes sense right? People get wayyyyy too into Black Friday, it's actually insane. If you are brave enough to hit the stores, safety precautions might be necessary.
The last stage is the worst. When you realize that it's Saturday at 11 pm and you have three papers due, two homework assignments, and finals approaching at a scarily fast rate, it makes you a little anxious. Who wants to go back to communal bathrooms and tiny futons? Why go back to finals and hell week when its so relaxing and stress free here?
