Thanksgiving Break - 5 Things I'm Most Excited For

This year's Thanksgiving is a bit more special for me

This has been a really long week. I guess it always feels long when you have so much anticipation for what’s coming ahead that everything around you feels slow. Luckily we’re almost there with Thanksgiving break right around the corner so yeah, we’ve (almost) made it.

Everyone’s excited to go back home, have some really good food, and just see all their friends and family again!

Here are 5 things I'm looking forward to:

1. The food

It’s Thanksgiving. Who isn’t excited to eat some really good food especially after being confined to college food for the last three months? Whether it's turkey, mashed potatoes, enchiladas, or chicken biriyani, anything works for me. I'm sure most college students would agree that the ramen diet gets a bit stale over time.

I also want to take this opportunity to cook again, something that I've been growing more and more fond of.But right now my mouth is watering from thinking about all this food so let's just move on.

2. The relaxation

The first semester is almost at a close and there’s been a lot going during this time but having a good break from it will definitely keep my mind more relaxed. I’ve learned that while staying busy is nice, taking a good break and recovering will make me more productive by the time I come back, especially with finals creeping in mid-December. Best to rest up and take it easy before getting back on the grind.

Of course, a major part of the relaxation factor is catching up with the close people I haven’t been around in all this time.

3. Seeing my friends and family

This is easily the best part about going home. It’s a great feeling to talk to the people who you genuinely care about and the gap of time that has separated everyone only strengthens the conversations and desire to talk to them. I can’t wait to see my close friends from high school who have all adapted well into college and are full of exciting stories to share about their experiences. It's crazy to think that we had all graduated high school together only a few months ago and are now nearly done with our first semester of college.

I’m eager to see the friends I made and became close with this past summer and tell them about how college has been and hopefully give them advice for when they start college! On top of that, I am excited to see the friends who I’ve grown up with, some of who just started college, some who are in their senior year of college, and some of who have already graduated college and are in the real world. But yes, I’m thrilled and there's gonna be a lot of catching up to do.

Of course I miss my parents and am enthusiastic to see them but am more excited to see my brother.

4. Seeing my brother

I have a twin brother who goes to college in Michigan and I haven’t seen him since I moved into college in August. Him and I did everything together. We talked about all kinds of shows, movies, argued about soccer, performed music, and so much more. A lot of people ask me if it feels different being away from him and it does. Before college, I was thinking that it wouldn’t be that much of a change but it really is as he’s someone who I’ve been around forever.

I need to tell him about how there's a One Ok Rock concert in NYC, how Arrow season 5 is apparently good, what he thought about Stranger Things so far, if he's cooked up any food at Mich recently, how a Food Network celebrity chef is coming to my college, etc, etc, etc.

I'm psyched to see him this Thanksgiving break and it’s a great time to be reunited with him because…

5. It’s our birthday!

Yes! Our birthday is on Thanksgiving! I think it’s really convenient that we have our birthday on a holiday because everyone has a break and it makes it easier to meet everyone at the same time. So this Thanksgiving is a time of celebration. I’ll be celebrating the things I’m thankful for like my friends, family, and FOOD while also celebrating my birthday.

There will be a lot of memories to relive in the conversations with my friends and more memories to make this Thanksgiving.

And while Thanksgiving break isn’t too long, it’s only a couple weeks before we go back home again to for winter break so there’s another thing to look forward to!!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
