I am an alien in New York and yesterday was my first thanksgiving. It was interesting to see just how important this day is across the United States. It felt somewhat like Christmas, but without the presents.
I think we can all agree, that it was a great day, with family and friends, and a break from either the stress of Uni and work. With so many dishes on the table, it can be hard to choose which dishes to eat, especially when the turkey and ham smell so good. There's no reason not to add a few salads in their for a less traditional and more healthy, option.
The desserts are an interesting they can range from:
- Thanksgiving Pies
- Thanksgiving Cakes
- Thanksgiving Cookies
- Apple Pie
- Pecan Pie
- Pumpkin Pie
- Sweet Potato Pie
- Holiday Cupcakes
With so may options to choose from, it's hard not to reach for them all. I had a Tim Tam Chocolate Cheesecake, a bit of an Aussie twist on the old cheesecake, which was to die for, literally. (pic above)
With all that being said, I have come to realize how important Thanksgiving is to all families across the United States. With that, I am forever, thankful for the love and support of my family and friends.
