Thanksgiving: family, watching football, and the "mother of all food" holiday. To almost every American, this is the one day a year where it is acceptable to pig out on as much food as the heart desires. However, to a picky eater (like myself) Thanksgiving is just a day where we have to find food for ourselves.
Whenever someone finds out that I don't like turkey or ham (or lots of other foods) they think I'm crazy. When actually I just don't like the texture of the foods! (Thanks sensitive teeth) So here's how a typical Thanksgiving goes for a picky eater..
I can smell the turkey cooking, the pie cooling off, and all the many, many sides making their way to the table. My stomach starts to churn. The family starts to roll in. I await for the questions I'll be asked. "Is that ALL that you're going to eat?" "You don't like turkey? Are you crazy?" "Well, what do you like to eat?" The questions are endless!
So I just sit back and watch as people fill their plates with turkey, dressing, and various types of casserole. All while I just stick to a simple veggie plate and a few rolls. I expect stares as it always happens. As I eat I just think to myself, "Man bring on the dessert!" Then I remember that I don't like half of the options for dessert anyways. Oh well.
All in all, Thanksgiving is a great time to be thankful and to spend time with family. Honestly though, I cannot wait for the day to be over! Bye-bye yucky food, and hello Black Friday shopping! THAT I can look forward to! So here's to all my fellow picky eaters: happy Thanksgiving and don't forget to eat before the guests come. At least then you have an excuse!
