I found the need to write again

Thanks To Odyssey

I always have had a passion for writing for as long as I could remember. I transferred to St. Joseph's College from Suffolk County Community College and I was looking to continue my education in Journalism. I always felt writing was an expressive art form that had no boundaries, write what you felt and what was on your mind and it will have meaning and reach people. Unfortunately when I came to SJC there wasn’t a journalism department at the time so I settle for English. My time spent there and in another writing group actually pulled my love for writing away and for a little while I didn’t write anything.

This all changed when I was asked in the beginning of the spring 2016 semester to write for Odyssey. I was asked by the Editor-in-Chief Rachel Stanislawek and writer Brittany Becker to write for Odyssey out of the blue and I accepted in order to see if I still had a passion to write again. Within the first week of being with Odyssey, my want and passion to write was rekindled with such force, I felt like I made up for all the time I lost not putting my thoughts to paper. With the creative freedom I was given (which I didn’t have in previous places), as well as the friendships I have made and the comments I was given by some articles, it made me remember how powerful writing can be.

Many believe that journalism is a shrinking industry, but I believe it’s just changing. The stories posted by the writers of Odyssey come from the heart and whether it’s meant to touch others hearts, entertain, or inform they do just that. The Odyssey is filled with incredible writers with matching talent and their want and need to write has in fact revived my own. Thank you to all of you and continue to put your heart and soul into your articles, because you never know the impact you may have on people. I’m the best example you can use for that.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
