Thank You To My Older Brother

Thanks for everything you do.

Thank You To My Older Brother
Shelbi Gonzalez

I recently read 6 "Thank You's" Every Big Sister Has For Her Little Brother by Alexandra Collier, and I realized how much I never thank my older brother. My brother and I have a four year age gap, which of course isn't huge, but going on his second year living out of the house, I've realized just how much I have missed him. His name is Brady, and he serves in the military. But enough about his personal life, here is just how much I don't thank you enough.

Thank You For Serving.

I honestly do not know how many times I could ever tell you this, but it would never be enough. You are my inspiration for so much and I can't even begin to thank you enough. You put your life on the line all the time, you have sacrificed being a "normal" twenty year old by serving. I believe and hope that EVERYONE appreciates you, and what you do.

Thank You For Being Protective.

As much as I say I hate it, I don't. I know you are doing what you think is best for me, but believe me when I say if I need you I will call you. Sometimes you do get obnoxious, but I know good and well its just your personality.

Thank You For Always Having My Back.

You continuously had/still have my back for the longest. We have so many secrets with each other or about each other. But I know I can always count on you to be on my side for things. Even if we disagree in the slightest, I know you'll still have your sarcastic comments on my side. In the sibling rule book it says you have to have my back, even if you don't want to. That's just how it works.

Thank You For Arguing With Me.

People might actually think I am crazy for this one, but that's okay. Over the countless times that we've argued I have never thanked you for any of them, and I'm sorry. You've made me into such a great person with witty comebacks just by arguing with me. You have made me stronger than I have ever been with your hurtful words in the past. The great part is I know you never meant anything you have said (at least I hope not). I am a firm believer in "sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me" now because of you. Thanks broski.

Thank You For Never Saying "I Love You"

As crazy as this sounds, I appreciate it so much. This has made me learn to never take you for granted. Of course, when you leave Alabama you always say "I love you", but I always know they mean something when we hug. And I would like to think we have sibling telepathy.

Thank You For Giving Me The Stupidest Nickname.

"Cornelius" aka the worst nickname ever to exist. I've had this nickname for as long as I can remember, and I absolutely hate it. You have tortured me with this nickname, and you've made me realize, that in all actuality it isn't that bad. As much as I hate it, I'm glad that we will have the memories of the fights it has caused. thanks brotha.

Thank You For Being You.

As much as I dislike the fact that I have to call you brother, sometimes. You've always been someone I've looked up to, literally. You stick to what you know, you stand up for what you believe in, and you don't take crap from anyone. I admire you so much along with your will to do things.

Thank You For The Wise Words.

Watching you grow up, I've noticed the weirdest things about you. Your snarky comments, and your sarcastic tone, I've always wondered if they were just wise words. So if you read this, are they? I'll always remember your favorite line to say when mom asked "where are you going?" "wherever the wind blows." is what you'd say.

Thank You For Buying Me Food.

When you come to town I swear all we eat is Mexican food, which isn't a bad thing. I appreciate the after school food runs, and I know Kami does too.

Thank You For Just Everything.

I honestly don't know how many times I can say thank you for just everything, and it still wouldn't be enough. Just know I appreciate everything you do. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

Love,

Your Little Sis

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
