A Thank You To My Dog
Madison Lancaster

Dogs are special creatures and have always been considered as "man's best friend". A saying that has been proven true time after time over the years. It is hard to imagine a life without dogs. For the short 19 years I have been alive, not one of those years have been spent without a dog. First there was Abby, then Max, Ty, and Charlie. Some of them at times overlapped, in fact, we still have Charlie and Ty today. I love all of my dogs and to them I wish to say thank you.

Thank you for laying over my feet when they are cold. Thank you for cuddling up next to me at night and keeping me warm. Thanks for always being up for a mid-day nap in the sun. Thanks for always being so excited every time I walk into the door. Thanks for cleaning up split food on the floor so I don't have to sweep it up later. Thanks for getting me up to go for a walk outside. Thank you for never leaving my side when I need you. Thank you for always knowing when I am sad and then cheering me up. Thanks for protecting me when I am scared at night.

Thanks for providing me with endless smiles and laughs. Thanks for taking endless pictures with me. Thank you for sticking with me through all these years. Thanks for teaching me to enjoy the little things in life. Thanks for going on car rides with me. Thank you for all the hikes and nature walks. Thanks for going exploring in the backyard with me when I was younger. Thank you for all the puppy kisses over the years. Thank you for allowing us to dress you up in ridiculous clothes. Thanks for sun tanning with me in the summer. Thank you for keeping me company as I do my homework. Thanks for letting me pet you as a stress reliever (even though I am pretty sure you enjoy it just as much as I do). Thank you for putting up with me tugging on your ears all the time because I just can't get over how soft they are. Thanks for making sure I am never lonely. Thank you for teaching me that you can nap anywhere you set your mind to. Thanks for all the cuddles and snuggles. Thank you for being my best friend.

I am so lucky to have you in my life and I do not know what I did to deserve you in my life. But, I give thanks everyday that you are. I love you with all my heart.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
