I and many others my age don't know a world without Barack Obama leading the United States of America. He was elected when I was in fifth grade, and even then, politics did not seem nearly as relevant as whether the school cafeteria was serving corn dogs or chicken nuggets that day. However, as eight years went by, I began to understand why politics was so important to so many people. And by the 2012 election, I was rooting for Obama to win again. Barack Obama, in my opinion, will go down as one of the most loved and respected presidents in history. Here are some reasons why we, the USA, say "Thanks, Obama."
Thank you for providing healthcare for millions of people. According to NBC news, 9.9 million people received healthcare under the Affordable Care Act. I have heard countless stories of people who are alive today because they could afford treatment for illnesses that may have killed them if left untreated. You stayed true to your campaign promise to provide healthcare for everyone, and for that, we thank you.
Thank you for keeping the office of POTUS respectable and scandal free. The last eight years have been nothing but class for the White House. You and your family have brought nothing but dignity to the executive office, and so we thank you.
Thank you for pushing for pro-LGBT legislation for the past eight years. You have helped with allowing LGBT people to get married, preventing discrimination against LGBT people, and more. Your repealing of "Don't Ask Don't Tell" is just one example of your push for LGBT rights. As an LGBT person, and on behalf of the LGBT community, I thank you.
Thank you for giving us Joe Biden as vice president. He has done nothing but good for this country. He has not only inspired a multitude of memes across the internet, but he has done a lot to benefit the US economy and foreign policy. We not only thank you but Joe Biden as well. To Mr. Biden: thank you for being a classy, caring vice president.
Thank you for promoting environmental welfare. As we enter a new era of environmental uncertainty in the United States, many of us look back on your multiple acts to reduce the carbon footprint of the United States. For caring about not only my future but also the generations to come, we thank you.
If I thanked you for everything you have done for this country, I would be writing forever. So, one more time, on behalf of all Americans, I thank you.
