A Thank You Letter To My Parents

Because they deserve it

A Thank You Letter To My Parents
The Balance

My parents are seriously my two biggest supporters. I know everyone says that, and everyone deserves that, but I honestly believe I’m blessed, specifically.

Both of my parents came from families that definitely did their best to give them all that they needed, but they both had to work really hard to get where they are now. They went through an enormous amount of trials and tribulations to try to establish a life for themselves and ultimately, for me. For this, I am eternally grateful.

Throughout the course of my life, I’ve had a variety of interests ranging from singing, to sports, to writing. During my teenage years, I was involved in a number of singing groups and organizations and I basically had a show every weekend. I kid you not, without fail, at least one of my parents would be at every single one of those shows. If I had to estimate how many shows there were over the course of 6 years, it would probably be over 200.

When I decided to switch my area of study from music to journalism when I went away to college, they were nothing but supportive the entire time. They helped me with my college applications, how to tailor my resume to be more journalism centered, and were always on me making sure I was on the right track.

My parents have also always made me feel like I can talk to them. They may not want to hear everything I have to tell them, and I absolutely have made my fair share of mistakes, but I never felt too afraid or uncomfortable to tell them. As a result, I have a great relationship with both of them. The relationship I have with my dad is different than the one I have with my mom, but for everything I can’t go to one for, I can go to the other for.

I was raised by two beautiful, intelligent, and truly loving people. They definitely have their flaws, just like anyone, but I love them and will always love them nonetheless, and I will never be able to thank them enough for everything they have done for me.

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
