A Thank You Letter To My First Dog

I know you can't understand me, but thanks for always listening.

A Thank You Letter To My First Dog
Brooke Plevinsky

You are my puppy brother and will always be my puppy brother. Before you, I always thought I was a cat person but man, was I wrong. You have opened my eyes to the world of canines and for that, I will be forever grateful. I just wanted to take this time to thank you for all the things you have done for me since you came into our lives.

Thank you for always being there to cuddle with me. It never fails at bedtime when you're right by my side to fall asleep. When I go away for the weekend it's a strange feeling not having you there. I don't know what I'll do once I move out. Just kidding, that's never going to happen.

Thank you for being my walking buddy. It's great that you love walks so that I now have a reason to go on walks. Before you, going on walks was awkward and I felt strange. We both hate the rain and snow so I think we fit perfectly together.

Thank you for always being up for a selfie. Some humans just don't understand the art of the selfie at all times, but you are always available and willing for them. Plus, you're super cute so we get way more likes on social media.

Thank you for getting along with almost everybody. I had never met a dog that got along with the cat as much as you do. You're now two peas in a pod and I can't thank you enough for not annoying him. It makes our lives a whole lot easier.

Thank you for greeting me every time I walk through the door. Even though your barking may be loud and unnecessary, it wouldn't be the same without it. I know that you're there to make sure I feel welcomed and loved because you missed me while I was gone. Even though you don't have a tail, I know it would be wagging every time.

Thank you for somehow knowing when I'm sad and comforting me. I know that you can't understand me but somehow you know when something is not right. You're always right there to give me kisses or snuggle up against me to make sure I know I'm not alone. You've seen me on good days and on bad days. Again, I know that you can't understand my actual words but I always feel like you get me more than any other human.

Thank you for walking into my life and never leaving. I have always believed that you were a gift because you literally walked into our family's life. I don't know what we did to deserve you or why your owners before us let you go, but I am forever grateful that they did.

And finally, thank you for showing me what it means to love. Before you came to us, I thought I knew what it meant to love. I thought it was to take care of a person and treat them right, but you made everything much clearer. They always say that you will never know true love until you have a child of your own, but I beg to differ. You are the closest thing I have to a child of my own and I know the feeling that they are they speak of because I love you as my own child. That may sound weird to some, but it's the truth. I will always protect you and make sure that you are well taken care of. Even though you may hate some of the things we do to you, like bathe you or trim your nails (sorry!), always know that it with good intentions.

I wish you could read this, but you can't. Therefore I will thank you in snuggles.

Love,

Your Human Sister

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter
morethanwheels

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
