A Thank You Letter To My Best Friend

“The most beautiful discovery true friends make is that they can grow separately without growing apart.” – Elisabeth Foley

A Thank You Letter To My Best Friend

Being that I can't seem to go more than ten minutes without making some reference to my best friend or one of our many inside jokes, I was bound to write an article of this sort at some point or another. I have so much to be thankful for in life, and my best friend is no exception. I think the world of her and am constantly inspired by her, and I really don't thank her enough for all that she does. So, here are just a few of the very many things that I need to express my gratitude to her for:

1. Thank you for putting up with me.

I am crazy, annoying, full of flaws, and I think too much, but yet you're still here. I don't know how you do it, but somehow you do, so thank you for that.

2. Thank you for being a part of my family.

I love that sometimes I come down stairs only to find you laying on my couch, and that to us there is really nothing strange about that in the slightest. My parents consider you one of their own, and sometimes I even think that you are their favorite daughter. I love it.

3. Thank you for all of our adventures.

This one is probably my favorite. From our midnight diner dates, to our bonfires, to waking up before school to watch the sunrise, to trying to sleep outside under the stars only to get caught in a storm at 3 a.m., to all of our coffee runs, to almost getting blown up by fireworks, to all of the concerts we have been to, to every other crazy thing we have done, I have enjoyed every minute of it and I look forward to taking on a lifetime of new adventures together.

4. Thank you for our not-so-adventurous times.

We definitely had our share of adventures, but we also have our share of not-so-adventurous moments and for that I am also very thankful. Thank you for letting me come over just to take a nap, and for being content with us just sitting together in silence and not saying a single word to one another. I'm fairly certain you are the only other person who would sit at a bonfire with me for seven straight hours while we both start and finish a book. Also, thanks for all of our long conversations, those are pretty great too.

5. Thank you for being my best friend and the twin sister I never had.

I don't really remember why or how we became best friends, but I do know that it had something to do with seventh grade math class, and ever since then you have changed my life in the most positive ways possible. You really deserve the best and I hope that life gives you nothing short of that. I honestly can't imagine my life without you, and am so blessed to have you in my life. Love you long time, buddy.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
