A Thank You Letter To My Older Brother
Lauren Sears

Dear Older brother,

Thank you for being one of the best role models I could ever have in my entire life. You have taught me so many things that I cannot wait to apply in my life. Thank you for always picking me up when I fall (or when you push me). Without you, I would still be sulking in sadness after I failed my first test in the 6th grade or that time when you actually pushed me down.

Thank you for the endless memories that I still carry with me and think about to this very exact day. The best memories made were when we weren’t trying to make any, they just happened. Thank you for leaving home and teaching me that although change is scary, it is necessary to succeed in life. Never would I expect to miss you this much but every day I wish we could go back to when we were younger and cause just as much trouble.

Thank you for having THE BEST taste in music because being forced to listen to your music wasn’t all that bad now that I think about it. Thank you for always telling me what songs sucked and which ones I should waste my money on to put on my phone.

Thank you for having a pretty good sense of fashion because without you I would still be wearing crocs and mid calves……. Oh wait, I still am but that is against your will. Thank you for telling me when I looked awful in something because you wouldn’t be caught dead with me in public wearing something you didn’t like.

Thank you for being so overprotective, even more than dad. Thank you for questioning if my shorts were too short, whose football jersey I brought home to wear to that Friday night football game and to decide if the new piercing I wanted was “appropriate” even though mom had already approved it.

But most of all, thank you for being so supportive. Thank you for the constant motivation to do better every time I don’t succeed. Thank you for pushing me to recover faster and better than I would if you were not there. Thank you for telling me that I do not have to be perfect but a close second will be just as good. Thank you for the endless surprises especially to graduation and all the gifts when you couldn’t be present, you made it up in the time we had together. Thank you for sitting through every single event from softball to those boring chorus concerts, you’ve been through it all.

Lastly, thank you for being the best big brother and influence anyone could ever have and thank you for being you.

Love Always,

Me

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
