There is always something to be thankful for.

Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays. Any excuse to eat a lot of good food is something that should be celebrated, in my humble opinion. Starting college this fall has not changed that in the slightest. Since today is Thanksgiving, I wanted to take some time to reflect on everything I have to be thankful for.

Changing Seasons

Since coming to college, I have experienced my first fall and winter in three years. The changing leaves and first snowfall of the season brought me some of the greatest joy I have felt since school started.

The Beauty of my Campus

My campus is gorgeous, especially during the transitions between seasons. The first time I came to campus (during orientation), I was mesmerized by how absolutely stunning it is. The white stone buildings are breathtaking, and the clock tower is one of my favorite views. It truly is a magical place that I am beyond lucky to call my home.

CSA

I was never a part of the youth groups at my church during high school, so I was apprehensive about joining the Catholic Student Association when I came to college. Joining CSA was one of the best decisions I have made. I have met so many wonderful people that all share the same love for Christ and will do anything to help me grow in my faith. My Link is one of my favorite people, and I cannot wait to make more memories with her.

Kappa Kappa Psi

Going through recruitment, accepting my bid, and joining Psi was one of the best decisions I have made since coming to college. I have found a home with them, and I am so glad that I get to spread my love of music with them. My Big and my Twin are two of my favorite people, and I am so lucky that I get to go through my MC process with them by my side.

My Section

Not to brag, but the piccolos are by far the best section of the RMB. We have the most fun, and are the best dancers during football games. My section was my first set of friends at college, and I could not have asked for a better welcome to the community. Everyone said that college band was worth it, and with people like these in my section, they are absolutely correct.

My Family

My family is the best. They let me move halfway across the country to pursue my goals, and I could not be doing what I am doing without their constant love and support. I know that I am not the best when it comes to staying in touch with them, but I know that whatever I do, they will be right there beside me to help guide me. It wasn't until after I left for college that I realized just how much my family means to me. I used to think that they were a crazy group of wackos, but now I am so lucky that they are my crazy group of wackos.

TOL

To the best friends I never saw coming: I am so thankful for you. I cannot even begin to express just how much you all mean to me. Each of you has a different role in our group, and I am so glad that we all mesh so well together. I joined the group after it was already formed, but you all accepted and welcomed me with open arms. Even on my worst days, you know how to make me laugh. From making the trek to Ottawa for food and watching the Overwatch World Cup, to playing Catan and hanging out in the 1010A party room, we always have fun, no matter what we are doing. I could not imagine a better group of people to spend my time with!

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter
morethanwheels

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
