Something I think is taken for granted, by my generation specifically, is how lucky we are to grow up in New England with the sports teams we have around us these days. Literally every major sports team has one a title in my lifetimes, including the Red Sox breaking a curse, and the birth of Tom Brady as the greatest of all time.
Lately, since Tom Brady's career is most likely coming to an end in a near future, and with the retirement of David Ortiz, I've been hearing more and more about how we need to consider the greatness we have encountered. Parents, teachers, uncles and aunts, and many others have all expressed how jealous they are of what we lucked into in regards to the success of these teams, and they're absolutely right.
I, for one, believe that there will never be a football player like Tom Brady, nor will there be a coaching/quarterback duo similar to Brady and Belichick. It is simply unparalleled and we are extremely lucky to be around to witness this greatness. Similarly David Ortiz was a one of a kind player in regards to his never before seen greatness, clutch ability, and charisma. There was nothing I loved more, growing up, than to go to Fenway Park and watch him mash baseballs.
The Bruins won a cup, the Celtics won a title as well. We witnessed Tim Thomas be an insane goalie in one of the best postseason runs that I've ever seen. Pierce, Garnett, and Allen are all hall of famers who propelled our team to success for so many years. We are so lucky.
So yes, we should be extremely grateful for the extreme success we have been fortunate enough to grow up witnessing. It is extremely incredible and will probably never occur again in our lifetimes. But we should also be excited for the future success. It seems that all our sports teams (minus the Bruins) are either up and coming, or built to succeed beyond individual players. So be thankful, but get excited. Boston Strong, baby.
