Why I Am Thankful For My Grandma

Family is such an important part of our lives. Even if we don’t get along with all of our family members we still love them. We all have that favorite family member where you have a bond that no one else will have, whether it’s an aunt, uncle, cousin or a grandparent. I think we all know how awesome Grandmas can be. There is no one else like her.

Feeding me legit comfort food -- Not all grandmas can cook. Sometimes there are only a few things you’ll eat that she makes, but when she makes that one thing you love, there is nothing like it. Whenever my Grandmother fed me her homemade Mac & Cheese, I was a very happy camper. I don’t know if it was because she added several packs of Velveeta to it or simply because it was made with love. The cookies she gave me before I left were always a “sweet” touch.

Always being a good listener--The awesome thing about Grandmas is that they just want to make you happy. Whether you are in a mood to just vent or to tell a funny story, they are always happy to lend an ear. I could be sitting with her at the dining room table with a cup of very strong coffee, or next to her in a car for hours going on a vacation -- she would always listen. Naturally, I would always return the favor because she always had great advice or some sassy comments that put a smile on my face.

Making me laugh -- It’s really awesome to have a grandmother with a sarcastic and feisty sense of humor. Whenever I went to visit my Grandparents, she always threw some serious shade and made me laugh. She always knew the way to my heart.

Supporting me -- Every time I would go on stage, knowing that my grandmother was out there supporting me in every possible way helped me do my absolute best. Telling her about my dreams of performing, even though she couldn’t fully understand everything that takes, she still supported me and did anything she could to help. I can never thank her enough for that.

Making magical memories -- Having a Grandma that wants to go on unforgettable adventures with you is the best: whether that’s Washington, D.C., for a concert I was in at the Kennedy Center, or attending several UK vs. Indiana football games in Bloomington, or going to the most magical place on earth -- Walt Disney World. As long as we could drive and not fly or travel by boat, she was golden. Some of my favorite memories were made when we went on journeys together.

Giving the best bear hugs--We all have that one thing we are obsessed with and my Grandmother’s was her bears. How could anyone have blamed her? They are soft, fuzzy and cute. That’s why when Christmas came around I always knew what to get her. Every time I saw Grandma, she gave me the best bear hugs when I left because they were filled with love.

When I started writing this article, my Grandma was still with me. Losing her is one of the hardest things I have ever experienced but she made my world a better place. I hope all of you are lucky enough to have an amazing Grandma like mine!

If I have learned one thing in my lifetime, it is that friends are a privilege. No one is required to give you their company and yet there is some sort of shared connection that keeps you together. And from that friendship, you may even find yourself lucky enough to have a few more friends, thus forming a group. Here are just a few signs that prove your current friend group is the ultimate friend group.

When it comes to television, there’s very few sets of on-screen siblings that a lot of us can relate to. Only those who have grown up with siblings knows what it feels like to fight, prank, and love a sibling. Ross and Monica Geller were definitely overbearing and overshared some things through the series of "Friends," but they captured perfectly what real siblings feel in real life. Some of their antics were funny, some were a little weird but all of them are completely relatable to brothers and sisters everywhere.

Every kid in college and/or high school dreams of summer the moment they walk through the door on the first day back in September. It becomes harder and harder to focus in classes and while doing assignments as the days get closer. The winter has been lagging, the days are short and dark, and no one is quite themselves due to lack of energy and sunlight. Let's face it: life is ten times better in the summertime.
